London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Re: Thomas Pyne Bethnal Green 1901
« on: Saturday 30 June 12 17:10 BST (UK)  »
Hi Jeremy,
my husband's gg-aunt Mary Ann Quaintrell had several children by Thomas Pyne. They were unlikely to have married because I have found a marriage for Mary Ann to a Henry Lumley on 25 Apr 1886.
Henry seems to be living with an Emma/Emily in Plaistow in 1901 and 1911 with their own children.

Mary Ann was "widowed" by the aged of 42 which would fit with the Thomas Pyne who died in 1908.

Here are Mary Ann & the children in 1911

Mary Ann's cousin Rebecca Levoir had married John Pyne (Thomas' brother?) on 15 May 1876 and they too are living in Ion Square in 1911.

Hi Mrs Lizzy,
It's probably a bit late but I can help you a bit with information on Francis and Ann.

Francis was the son of William Nicholson and Catherine Watson (nee Nugent), he was named after Catherine's father Francis Nugent.

Francis and Ann married on 12 Dec 1853 at St Philip's Bethnal Green, he was already a soldier by then.

When their daughter Catherine married Francis Cannell in 1883 she states that her father was in the 7th Hussars.

Hi Robert,
I'm afraid that baptism is 40 years too early to be my Frances.

Devon Lookup Requests / Pilton baptism look-up Please
« on: Saturday 13 September 08 12:40 BST (UK)  »
My ggg-grandmother Frances (Fanny) MARLING gave her place of birth as Pilton, Devon. Her date of birth, given her age at death will have been c.1774.

She married twice, to William LEY in Barnstaple on 4 Aug 1799 & then to John GLOVER on 1 Oct 1805 again in Barnstaple. I'm ssuming therefore that if she wasn't born in Pilton itself she was from somewhere in the Barnstaple area.

Thanks in anticipation.

Cornwall Lookup Requests / Re: look up please liskeard record office
« on: Sunday 31 August 08 17:10 BST (UK)  »
Hi I'm the Sue Dent that transcribed the marriage record.
I've had a look for Elizabeth's baptism in my records & I can say that she wasn't baptized in Talland, Lansallos, Pelynt, St Martins by Looe or any of the Looe/Polperro non-conformist Chapels.

"Tancreek" is actually Tencreek, not far from Talland & just off the main road between Looe & Polperro, it's of interest to me because my great-grandparents lived there in the 1930s & 40s & whilst my grandad was serving in WW2 my dad lived there too.

BTW there isn't a Record Office in Liskeard & unfortunately many of the family history resources that the library used to hold have been moved (apart from the Cornish Times Archives & censuses local to the Liskeard area).

For births & marriages it's probably best to apply to the Registrar at Graylands, Dean Street.

Thanks for that but I already had the GRO ref, the marriage is also on the IGI as an extracted record. I just happen to know that Carlisle RO have the marriages for Thursby & was hoping for a look-up.

Most of my Cornish bunch were non-conformists & had Civil marriages so I've rather overspent my certificate budget. I was quite relieved to see that these two (from my husband's tree) actually got married in a Church.
