Hello

I have a military record that my relate to my ancestor which lists his place of birth as Penygroes. Where may he have been baptised if this is the case? His religion was listed as Independent.

Are any of these records online or where could I find them?

Thanks

Jen

Thanks everyone! Don't think my eyes are working very well, I wasn't getting those at all.

Looks like Stoke St Millborough and Bitterley are quite close to each other so seems likely.

Thanks all!

Caernarvonshire / Re: Williams Family - Llanwnda/Llandwrog

Hi Huw

Thanks for your message.

My Great Grandmother's brother was William Williams from Llandwrog but he was born in 1888 and definitely died in 1971 so not the same one, sorry.

CWGC shows that he was William David Williams, son of William John and Jane of 6 Gaugan Terrace, Groeslon, Carnarvonshire.

I hope that helps.

Hi Rosie

The witnesses were Hugh Griffith and Margaret Williams (most likely Sarah's sister).

I'm not sure which details you need for the census but its:

Thanks Rosie. I wasn't sure what to do regarding my previous post so thought it best to compile what I know now into one place.

Caernarvonshire / Griffith Jones - Born c.1866 in Llanwnda

Hi all

It feels like every year or so I come back here trying again to break down my brick wall with Griffith. I'm hoping a very kind & clever person on here might have more luck than me  ;D.

Griffith Jones was my GG Grandfather. He married Sarah Williams on 11th December 1885 in Register Office, Carnarvon. He was 18, she was 22. His residence at the time of marriage was Frondeg Rhostryfan. His father is listed as Griffith Jones, a labourer.

Once they were married, Griffith took Sarah's surname, although I don't know why. They had Jane (b. 7th Oct 1885 in Llandwrog), William (b. 12th May 1888 in Llandwrog) and Sarah Ann (b. 30th Aug 1891 in Aberdare). I've found the family on the 1891, 1901 and 1911 census. Griffith died in Aberdare on 21st June 1921, aged 55.

I would love to be able to work back from Griffith and find out about his ancestors but I'm drawing a blank. Does anyone have any ideas on where I could go next? I've looked through census records but can't seem to find anything that ties in, certainly not to a point where I could be sure that I'm on the right line.

Thanks in advance!
