Is this your Ettie RAY in 1924 "spending a few days in Invercargill and Winton"
https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/ST19241004.2.139?

(under Riverton Gossip)

of this we are unsure. None of her family lived that far south, but possible...

Her father George died in 1946 nz,  and she is mentioned in his obituary as Ettie McCabe.

Is there a mention of her in any of her siblings obituary's? Might help narrow some dates down to find a death for her and or a definite surname if she remarried etc.

None of the obituaries are on line or digitalised at this stage unfortunately. no wills or probates at archives found either at this stage

Perhaps Ettie is a familiar for Esther?
Yes, they are both the same person. Esther seems to be a mistranscription of Hesba

Unfortunately  no will or probate has been found.
No obituaries for any family members either found as yet.

The Westport papers haven't been digitalised yet.
The obituary notice is transcribed on Family search.
The Ettie, name is referred to there.
There are two researchers that have researched her family but Pearl  just disappears.
I'll post the links when I get home from work

We are trying to find Pearl Hesba Elizabeth Ray,  b1905 Westport,  New  Zealand.  Aka Ettie McCabe
After giving birth to a daughter in 1923, who she leaves behind. She disappears.
Family lore has her marrying a James  McCabe  in 1929 and having three children, Audrey,  James and Micheal. Also that she went to Australia
There is no record of a marriage  here in New Zealand,  or any births for the children. No death record either
Her father George died in 1946 nz,  and she is mentioned in his obituary as Ettie McCabe.
We are nor 100% sure of anything after the 1923 birth.

Sussex / Re: Lost family of Hilton's

hi rnzaf,
I can't say for sure if Hannah is the daughter of the same Robert Hilton, cant find a baptism for her, and as the Hiltons left England in 1854 for Australia I cant check the 1861 census for her either.
Found this researcher who seems to think they are one and the samehttp://nicko.familytreeguide.com/getperson.php?personID=I17311&tree=T1&PHPSESSID=294c6bb063588423d13b0d5039702ffb, so maybe.

Would like to know where the name Woodrow comes from, sounds like a family name but have yet to find any connection to it...yet.

At this stage it seems Robert, baptised 12 oct 1817 Litlington,Sussex. Was the son of Richard Hilton and Barbara Wenham = 5 Dec 1803 Seaford, Sussex.
If these are his parents Richard Hilton must have died between 1817 and 1823 when barbara remarried to a George French 28 Dec 1823 Litlington

hope this helps. personal mail me if you want more details
All the best
