London and Middlesex / Re: Downs or Downes, Joseph Edmond b 1881

Hi Jennifer
Yes, that's the right Joseph E Downs (and sometimes Downes). After about 1930, he disappears from his family and is never heard from again. There are 1-2 records of a J E Downs in the area but nothing definitive and I was hoping I might get lucky and hear from someone who knew him.

Thanks for your response!

regards, Barb

You're pretty darn quick!

Yes, I had noticed a Joseph E Downs and Edith M Downs - they got married in 1939 (if this was my grandfather, then he did that when my grandmother was still alive!) and lived in 13 Turret Grove, Clapham for many years. The problem is that this J.E. Downs is still alive (according to british phone books) after 1963....so one of these clues is not the right Joseph E Downs.

Thanks for your input though as it's good to see someone else has picked these aspects up too.

regards, Barb

Hi KGarrad,
Yes, that could be him....I could order the death certificate I guess but I have no information between 1930 and then. He either deserted his family for another woman or died...I'm hoping to try to fill in that gap! But thanks, maybe I should just take a punt and order this death certificate.

thanks!

Hi
Looking for records of my grandfather, Joseph Edmond Downs (later, Downes) born 1881 in Marylebone, London to Joseph Downs and Alice Jane Downs nee Frampton.
Married Bertha Elizabeth Jeffries in 1912, had 3 children (Adaline Bertha, Leonard, Charles Ronald) and then disappeared from his family in about 1930. No idea where he went or what happened. Any information gratefully received!

Hi there
The tablet for the Andersons of Rashiegrain is up on the wall of the kirk. Photo attached. Cheers, Barb
