2 from me Ian..., tommy

Thanks Tommy for your efforts, unfortunately I don't have other pictures of my dad from this time to hand to enhance facial features, the original is not very sharp.

Not very good: Can it be scanned at a higher resolution?

I'll have a look, as done on works copier/scanner.

Can anyone help with this photo, the light has intruded into the image, presumably taken with a fairly unsophisticated camera.

Many thanks
Ian

Irene, Tommy.....thanks so much. He died when I was 6 yrs old, and I never saw his eyes as he was blinded in WWI. In all other photos he was wearing dark glasses, so this really does mean a lot to me.

Thanks

Can anyone help please.

Attached is an image I have taken of my Grandad's picture in army uniform. Unfortunately it hadn't been stored well and its age have caused it to fade and start to disintegrate.

I know its a big ask, especially the condition that it is in, but would be extremely grateful if anyone can help. This is the oldest picture I have of him taken approx 1914 when he joined the Devonshire Regiment.

Kind regards
Ian

I've just had time to review all the information that flooded in, there was too much to keep on top of and much of it passed me by.

Although I maybe didn't give all the information I knew, I had established that there was a void in the post 1900 period after James Meader died in 1898. Its still not crystal clear and may never be. Where was Frances between 1898 and 1911? I'm still unsure where my grandfather Alfred lived between the 1901 info at school and going in the army in 1914 (although a spell in 'borstel' during this period was known in the family).

One interesting piece of info that has emerged from family discussion and gives an insight into life in 1920s:

Alfred (blinded in WWII) and 2nd wife Mildred cycled from London to South Wales when they moved house with 2 children on a specially converted tandem.......maybe the day will return when we have to do this again when fossil fuels run out!

Thank you once again to the contributors, I did not know what I was likely to receive and am still amazed at the information gleaned.
