Ok, I got the record.  It has as the address: Cloncanon and that's it.  What kind of address is that?  Witnesses are: Patt Splane   and Judy Moor.  Denomination Roman Catholic  Parish Toomevara.   It all says Splane.  Is that a shortened version of Spillane?  Thanks again.

Definitely going to be worth it!  I will do that when I get back home tonight.  I'm visiting the in-laws and just jumped on their computer for a second (yeah you might say I'm addicted. lol)

I was looking through the castlegarden site.  I know he was a farmer and bought land in 1865, I have a copy of the deed. ;D  I don't know what his occupation would have been when he got here.  Most of the census records I've checked have him arriving in 1855 but on some the last 5 also looks like a 3  ::)  I haven't had much luck with the ship records.  I'll give John another try. lol

LOL!  Yeah, I know it's still too early, it's just that the headstone says he's from Templemore and she's from Templederry and Toomevera is between them both.  It's just I have had no luck for a while now and you seem to have gotten something promising.  I will make another trip to the courthouse and look at naturalization records.  There were several Moore's around that time.  James Moore was the only one in 1880.  That's why I went with that one.  Actually, the nat. record is all I have saying that the J could be James.  It very well could be John.  :D

BTW That couple had a son called John in 1835 - I'm wondering might the J actually be John and not James ???

Still early days though  :)

Tara

It could be John.  Isn't James a form of John?  John seems to be a common name in my family.   My grandfather's name was John and his father's name was Joseph John Moore.  Interesting.  You've got me excited about it again! ;D

Hello Tara,

I have his mother's name on his death certificate.  I will post it when I get it back from one of my Uncles. ;)

I am trying to get a marriage cert. but they didn't start requiring one to be filed with the gov. until 1880.  I am trying to get in contact with the town historian to see if I can get my hands on the Catholic Church records.  The Catholic Church that was in that town is now a V.F.W.

As far as ship records, I have found several Martin and James Moores.  I don't know which Moore is which ;D

I also have heard from older family members that our name was once O' Mordagh or something like that.  No luck searching it though.

Thank you for all your help.  One more thing, I currently have Ancestry.com, but they haven't found me anything I didn't already know.  There are so many different services out there.  Which one would you say is the best for this?
