No worries, I think we overlapped.

Princes St is now Rawlings St - changed in 1912,
and Green St is now Mossop St - changed after 1929, exactly when I know not.

Cheers.

One upside of Ancestry's change is that the sister of my 2nd great-grandmother is now my 2nd great-grandaunt, whereas before she was my 3rd great-aunt. See the attached diagram.

That is interesting. In my family tree I have a Hannah Pennicott or Pennycod who was baptised in Kirdford, Sx in 1789, and married James Bonner in Dunsfold, Sy in 1812. They were in Dunsfold in the 1841 & '51 Censuses. Maybe part of the same extended family.

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: Ancestry DNA

Hi Henning,
It seems to me that the ethnicity estimate are at best informed guesses, given the small amount of data that they are based on. No doubt the estimates will get more 'accurate' as more people are tested.
I have tested with 3 companies, the estimates from 2 of these are similar.
A, Great Britain 58%, Scandinavia 18%, Ire/Scot/Wales 9% and W. Europe 9%.
B, British Isles 70%, Scandinavia 17%, S.E. Europe 13%.
C, English 7.6%, Scandinavian 47.3%, N & W Europe 45.1%.
My ancestors have lived in Surrey for 300 or so years, that is the ones that I have managed to trace with evidence, but England has been over-run by every man and his dog from Europe over the past 1000 years so that might explain the Scandinavian % and Europe %.
I bought the book "The Family Tree Guide to DNA Testing and Genetic Genealogy" by Blaine T. Bettinger, and am slowly ploughing my way through it.

Good Luck!
Maurice.

The Common Room / Re: 3rd great grand uncle in different terms
« on: Wednesday 01 February 17 00:24 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

It seems to me that '3rd great' indicates how many greats (3) there are before 'grand uncle", ie great great great grand uncle

We had a discussion about great vs grand in a previous topic : http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=756403.0.

Hi,

http://maps.nls.uk/view/101604809   has Llanwrtyd Wells at the bottom and to the north-west is Llanwrtyd, WikiP has a brief article about the two, see  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Llanwrtyd

Cheers.

You could start by downloading the free versions of Roots Magic, Legacy Family Tree and Family Tree Maker. Try them out and see which one rings your bell. There are many others around, no doubt everyone will suggest their personal favourite.
