I have purposely posted this on both the Ontario and USA brd, because records may reside in both countries.
George H Murphy (b.1870) m. 1902 Maud Ellen Clark (b.1877) in Lambeth London England. My mother tells a story that her Grandfather, George H. had a fight with his Father, James Murphy. James disinherited his eldest son and George H left England in 1906 for Toronto, Ontario, Canada, then later to Detroit Michigan, USA.
This query concerns an heretofore unknown child and may relate to the bitterness my Mother recallsl of her Grandmother, who lived in the household of her youngest daughter Winifred, my beloved Nana/grandmother.
It has been the family's understanding that the children of George H & Maude E were George C (b.1908 in Canada) (his middlename/refused to recognize his given name "it was awful"), Winifred Sarah (b.1910 in USA) Arthur (1912 in USA), Raymond (b.1914 in USA).
The documentation of immigration from Canada to USA I found Maud travelling with an 8month old Sarah Georgina (b.1908). George H, husband & father, had come earlier and I found no record for George C. These babies would have been twins. I have ruled out typographical errors because the description of the baby is distinct. I wonder if circumstances would cause the George to be listed elsewhere.
It appears that one of Maud's sisters, Lillian, who married a GREEN was already in Detroit, Michigan USA. Were one of the babies her sister's? Strangly, I happen to find record of Sarah Georgina at a time when one of my sister's gave birth to twins later in life. Our family thought this to be a fluke, but since finding Sarah Georgina and C George--we are thinking otherwise.
Sadly, I have found no other records for Sarah Georgina. (Manifest of Passengers to port=Detroit, pg=18), (individual slips that identify the passenger/microfiche #1478_69)
George b.1908 in Canada, on the other hand, does not appear until the USA census of 1910. (ward=Detroit 8, county = Wayne, State= Michigan, pg= sheet 6A)
What is the best way to go about resolving this history?
