Hi, I have been helping a colleague and she is researching Rushton from Hollington in Checkley, not too far from Mayfield.  If you send me your email I will pass on your details to her.

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Chalford - Cook
« on: Tuesday 31 March 09 21:04 BST (UK)  »
Would someone be kind enough to check the 1841 census for Chalford please.  I am hoping that George Cook was living there with his parents.  George should have been born c1821. Thanks. ;)

Would someone be able to look up the baptisms in Bourne/Grimsthorp to see if there is one for Caroline  Rouse born c1820 please. ;)

All of those, hadn't until this week been able to find any of the children's birth certificates but with a process of elimination and knowing that the last child, Elizabeth, had definitely been born in Leicester, sent for the certificates that came within the right period stating that the mother should be Caroline.  Just one came back with a definite showing the father to be George! I feel that Chalford is probably correct, maybe he said Sheffield as he was living and working near a Foundry and felt that it perhaps gave him a better chance of a job - who knows.

There is a Caroline Rouse born in Grimsthorp in 1826, such a small place and two children with the same name within 6 years -  hmmm.  This one went on to marry someone else and have children.

The first child of my couple was not born until c1850 which means Caroline would have been 30, quite old in those days.

I have discovered a Caroline Rouse born c1820 in Bourne/Grimsthorpe in Lincolnshire.  She was married (or maybe just living with) a Daniel Cook also known as George.  Although I cannot find a marriage certificate their first child was born in 1950 while they were supposed to be living in Lichfield.

This family have led me a very merry dance and I would be grateful for any further information.
