Shropshire / Re: Wrights living/born in Stoke St Milborough in 1823 - 1828

I believe I have as much information as possible on Hannah Bridgwaters at the moment.

I'm looking for the Wright family of Stoke St Milborough so I can work out if one of them is the father of Thomas Bridgwaters.

Shropshire / Wrights living/born in Stoke St Milborough in 1823 - 1828

Hello,

I have a DNA match on MyHeritage who descends from an Elizabeth Wright, daughter of Abigail Wright. Elizabeth was born in Stoke St. Milborough, and my direct male line comes from Stoke St. Milborough, so I believe that I am related somehow to this family. I also have a number of Wrights appearing in my Y-chromosome matches (FTDNA) as far-distant relatives. It is possible, though not proven, therefore, that the father of my ancestor Thomas Bridgwater (b.c. 1823) is a Wright who is related to Elizabeth Wright. Since Thomas has a brother called William, also illegitimate, I'm assuming Thomas or William might be relevant first names.

Can anyone find any information on the males in the family of Elizabeth Wright, daughter of Abigail Wright, who could have been a potential father for Thomas Bridgwater circa 1823? So basically, where the Wright family (related in some way to Elizabeth Wright) were located and who they comprised in the 1820s. What I already know about Elizabeth Wright and Abigal Wright is below based on searching on familysearch.org.

That would seem to confirm this is the right marriage. Very helpful thanks.

Do you know when & where their first child was born?

There’s this marriage entry

3 Nov 1810 St Saviour, Southwark
William Stevenson
Spouse:    Frances Culver
He signed she made her mark in presence of Benjamin White & Julia Culver
London, England, Church of England Marriages and Banns, 1754-1936

I believe the first child is William Stevenson, born 2 Aug 1811 St. Clement Danes, London, England. The last child, Ester Stevenson, was born 28 August 1827 St. James, London, England. According to the census, Frances was born sometime between 1782 and 1786 in Hampshire.

I wonder what the chances are that this is my ancestor William Stevenson who born c. 1782 in Suffolk. He had a wife named Frances (of Hampshire). Can't find any information on their marriage. William was a crucifix maker in London in 1851 and may have died in 1867 in London.

The only christening I can find for a William Stevenson from Suffolk born in 1782 is George William Stevenson
ch. 17 Jun 1782 Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk
son of James Stevenson & Susan

Weirdly though, I also cannot find any marriage information for James and Susan, or any other children from that family. Do you think this is a military anomoly? Also, is the location in Bury St Edmunds a military thing?

Another interesting question: I noticed that the military draft record says Complexion: Brown, hair Dark Brown. Eyes Hazle. Does this mean mixed-race or just sun-tanned? I'm not sure what "Brown" means in terms of complexion in military records.

Anthony Lorton buried St James Sedgley 2.1.1828 aged 57 years (1771) residence Gornal Wood

Anthony does not appear in the 1841 census, so this makes sense. If 1771 is his birth year, that also makes sense, as it supports his identification with Anthony Lawton (ch 18 Mar 1770 Keele, Staffordshire, England).

There were two Lawtons born in 1836 who lived in the same household in 1841 (Emma and Anthony, both born in 1836). Emma was christened in 24 April 1836
Kingswinford, Staffordshire, England, United Kingdom with mother listed as Jane Lawton, no father. So maybe the second Anthony died in 1836 and left a pregnant wife. Either that or Jane had two illegitimate children.

Bury St Edmunds farmer William Stevenson's entries are number 8 on folios 5 verso & 6 (images 12 & 13) and number 55 on folios 30 verso & 31 (images 62 & 63).

David

Excellent David! Many thanks.

This is all very interesting thanks.

Yes, it does appear that he may have died before 1847.
