Hi Paul,

Thanks for the message. John Griffiths is my great-great grandfather, he married Jane and they lived in Scotland Street, Llanrwst & are buried along with 7 of their children in St.Mary's cemetery, Llanrwst.

Richard & Ellen are buried in St Crwsts, Llanrwst.
According to the 1871 census, Richard was down as being born in Llanrwst & Ellen in Llangernyw.
I refer to Ellen as Ellen as that is her name on the gravestone, despite it sometimes being listed as Elinor on the census.

Thanks,

Ellen

I'm looking for more information about a relative Richard Griffiths who was the Landlord of the Cambrian Vaults, Llanrwst. I believe he was the landlord around 1870-1890 before it went bust!!

Many thanks.

I believe that Percy Windmill was married to a Winifred according to the 1911 Census.

I'll look up the Harriet Hyett death 1n 1967.

Unfortunately we know nothing about my husband's Paternal side of the family, Patrick John Windmill died in December 1963 when my husband was 4 months old, his mother didnt keep in touch with her in laws & later remarried.

Thanks for all help & suggestions.

Hi,
Thanks for the replies, they've given us something to think about!
As I understand it then, in 1932 Percy & Harriett 'legitimised' their 2 sons & you could do this if you married?
But we are unable to find a record of a marriage between Percy & Harriett.

The plot thickens,

thanks again,

E

I'm trying to trace my husband's family, any help in tracing any information about the family would be gratefully received.
Before ordering the B.C I found the transcript of where his birth had been added by hand into the registration & thought no more about it.

Last week , my father in law's birth certificate arrived & has thrown up a few questions as well as answers!
Patrick John Windmill born March 1925 son of Percy Windmill (Postman) & Harriett Hyett nee Wren
The birth certificate says that the birth was registered on 18th of May 1932 on the authority of the Registrar General.
I have also found that Patrick John's brother born 1922, has been added again by hand instead of typed in like the rest.
What does this mean, I don't understand what took them so long to register the birth of their children.

Thanks,
E

Hi
Thanks for your replies!

The 1861 census is the one that throws me!
William Morris according to the 1881 census is going by the name of William Morris Williams, which suggests that his middle name is Morris, however he drops the Williams by 1891 & his wife Margaret & their children all have the surname Morris.
Esther Evans is the daughter of Marriah from her first marriage, as is Catherine Roberts.
I am at the moment presuming that he & Isaac are the sons of William & Marriah/Maria. He name's one of his son's William & his daughter(my great grandmother) Maria, this make's me believe that he named them after his parents.

I'll be taking up your advise & buying William & Marriah's wedding certificate!

Thanks,

E

Hi,

I'm looking for some information on a relative of mine. I have copies of the 1841,51,61,71 & 81 census' this is how I've been able to put together the following information.
Her name over the years appears as Marriah, Mariah & Maria (just to add to the confusion!)
She appears on the 1841 census as Mariah Evans, born 1810, Gyffin, Caernarvonshire. She is living in Castell, Llanfairfechan.
From what I can gather Evans is not her maiden name.

In 1851, at the same address she is listed as being a widow & also a pauper.
By, 1861 she has married William Williams & has two more sons, William Morris & Isaac Morris.
The family are on the 1871 & 1881 census for Capel Garmon, Denbs.
I'd like to find out her maiden name if possible!
Any information would be great!

Ellen
