Norfolk / Looking for relatives of Thomas Barnes Born 1822
« on: Saturday 20 February 21 20:26 GMT (UK)  »
Thomas Barnes' father was Thomas Pointer.  Thomas was raised by a family by the name of Barnes and hence acquired that last name. The name Barnes evolved into Barnett then Burnett.  Anyone know of this family?

Thank you. You have  been so very helpful.  If you find anything further that would be great.  I'm not that astute at searching yet but am working on it.  I have Sarah B:1785 (no MN name) as the mother of Elizabeth B: 1831 so that would make her 46 when Elizabeth was born?  Then again the Sarah Hazeldine who died in 1837 is a possibility...Elizabeth's brother James B: 1812 .... wow...what a jump between James and Elizabeth.  19 Yrs.?  Something is not adding up here  :-\  Honnoria

Thats okay Rolnora.  I understand what you mean.  So far the computer is doing okay as long as I leave it on.  When I have to shut it down and or restart because of updates thats when I run into problems.

William Hazeldine's connection to the Hadfields is pretty much what we already know.  Mary his sister married my Great Great Grandfather Joseph Hadfield.  I have a fairly nice photo of them if you would like me to send it but I'm not quite sure yet how to do that in this email.  Maybe you already saw it on Ancestry.

Thank you for the links to the websites.  I'm still wondering about Sarah Ann...now that I know she married John Leah. What about this William Butterworth fellow...maybe she married him after John Leah died in 1891??? ...or like Birtle said its a red herring.

Have a good weekend.  The snow is coming down here :( not my favourite time of the year.  Honnoria

Very interesting ... nice tidbit Rolnora ... so a daughter of John and a son of James (brothers of my Great Great Grandmother Mary Hazeldine) are buried in the same grave as their Grandfather.  I now am surmising that James wife Sarah was a  Whittaker which I did not know until now. I am still wondering about John's wife Harriet's maiden name born 1812.

I'm also in the dark as to what Robert's 1785-1865 wife Sarah's maiden name is???  Any guesses?  Honnoria

WOW!  Thank you so much.  A lot to absorb.  This is really a trip into the past and the lives of my descendants.

The tree on Ancestry is not mine...it belongs to my 2nd cousin 2x removed who found me quite by accident by reading an article in our local newspaper about my mother and father who had a restaurant in town.  My mother is a descendant on her mother's side.  I am just a guest on the tree and she hasn't renewed her subscription so I can't peruse other trees anymore unless I take out my own subscription and right now with my computer the way it is I am not going to do that.  The pictures posted were submitted by me.  All of the Hadfield, Hazeldine photos were submitted by me.  My maternal Grandmother was a Hadfield.

The names of Mary & Alfred's two sons were William Alfred Austin and Percy Austin.  The Grandson -  I didn't know about.  Thank you again for the obituary.  Honnoria

Rolnora - Thank you so much!  That would be amazing to see Mary Austin's obituary.  They were all living in Heavily as far as I know.  In my first post I did detail the death information of Mary (Hadfield) and Alfred Austin.  I also have a photo of them taken on the occasion of their Diamond Wedding Anniversary celebration which took place Feb. 2, 1934 at St. Mary's Parish Church, Stockport, by the Rev. John Walker.  They lived at 5 Osborne Road and were married Feb. 2, 1874.

I think you are on the right track re:  William and Hannah

Robert Hazeldine 1785-1886 is also noted as a gardener in my records.

Joseph Hadfield (hub of Mary Hazeldine) was a hatter also.

Robert Hazeldine's father Robert born 1767 (no death date) married a Sarah Ashton born 1756 (no death date) and her father was William Ashton born 1731 (no death date) if any of this information will be helpful to you when you go to Stockport.

Rolnora you are a gem for doing this :).  Honestly it will answer a lot of questions for me.  I have been having computer problems so if I don't respond please be aware of this...I will be back online at some point.  Cheers.  Honnoria

Rolnora - I think you're right about Robert's age being 55/56
as it says in my record born 1785.

My record also says he had a brother Samuel 1788 and a brother James 1791.  He married a Sarah (nee ?) and they had Mary 1808 (wife of Joseph Hadfield), John 1810, James 1812 and Elizabeth 1831.  No mention of a Samuel, Sarah, Robert or William in my notes.

Elizabeth would be 10/11 in the 1841 census which appears correct although I am dubious of the span between James and Elizabeth.  Some dates may be wrong here and like you say there were more children of which I have no record at the moment.

Left to right standing - William Hadfield, Thomas Hadfield, Joseph Hadfield.

Sitting left to right - Elizabeth Hadfield, Joseph Hadfield, Mary Hadfield (Hazeldine), Mary Austin (Hadfield) and Sarah Ann Hadfield.  I've had this photo for years and never knew who they were until I came across a recipe file card in my older sister's photo album which had their names on it.  I had the photo and she had the names (whatever possessed my mother and her siblings to split things up that way I'll never know.   ::)  Regards.  Honnoria

Greetings Fellow Rootschatters:-

Thomas Hadfield 1850-1916 born Stockport (middle in my avatar standing) is a brother of Sarah Ann Hadfield.  His residence in 1861 was Cheadle, Moseley. He married an Elizabeth Seel in 1871 Heaton Norris, Cheshire and died at Hazel Grove in 1916.  His parents Joseph & Mary Hadfield (Hazeldine).

Could William be a brother of Mary or a half brother? Hmmmmmmmm?
