The Lighter Side / Re: Wedding gift lists 1930s

My cousin who married in 1966 was given a dust bin!  Inside were toilet rolls, a toilet brush, washing up liquid, tea towels, dust pan and brush, dish cloths etc. etc.  After all these years I can still remember how amused and pleased they both were.

If anyone belongs to Lost Cousins, it is free to join, there is a very clear explanation of how to order an image.

Some public libraries give access to Find my Past.  Hope this helps.

Was just browsing the site when I noticed the name Habersham mentioned with a connection to Beverley, East Yorkshire, posted by radstockjeff.  A quick phone call to a friend confirmed this was the same family she has a distant connection with. There is still a Dyer Lane in Beverley with connections to the Habershams.

Will try to PM radstockjeff.

Some families would probably have had a type of health insurance to cover births etc.

Lancashire / Re: Vera Herbert strange birth discrepancy

My father, one of twelve children, celebrated his birthday on 12th February until needing a passport he obtained a copy of his birth certificate only to discover he was born on 9th February.

On the 1939 Register my mother's year of birth is three years out.

We just have to accept that some records are wrong, people make mistakes, it only adds to the fun of family history!

It might be worth visiting the county archives.  Look on-line for their addresses and  telephone numbers.  They will advise you of their opening hours and if you need any ID for your research.  The county archives are usually staffed by people with great knowledge of the local area who spend most of their time helping researchers.  Our local archives have free access to both Ancestry and Find my Past.

They are there to help!  Good luck with your research.
