Oxfordshire / Re: PREEDY

Hi Dalenya,

My Oxfordshire Preedys were mainly from the area of Great Tew.  William Preedy of Great Tew was my 8x Great Grandfather.  I also have Preedys in South Newington and Bishopstone.

Any connections??

Best wishes,
Chris

Sorry, Joan, I don't think there is a link here.  I don't know of any of my Flowerdays moving to Lincolnshire, but will let you know if I come across any!  Many thanks for getting in touch, though!
Chris.

Hi,
I have a lot of ancestors in Aldbourne, mainly BUNCE, BROWN, PIERCE/PEARCE, KIMBER and PIKE/PYKE.

I was wondering, if there is an uncertainty about Mary Ann's surname, whether it could in fact be PYKE rather than PYLE?  There seem to have been quite a few PYKE/PIKEs in the Aldbourne area during the 1700's to 1800's.

Just a thought!
Chris.

Hi Holly,

Thanks for taking the trouble to contact Mike FLOWERDAY.  I'm sure there is a link here, as a lot of my FLOWERDAYs came from Ingham and Smallburgh.

I was passed some information put together by Alan FLOWERDAY some time ago.  However, I don't think I've been in contact with Mike before, and would be very interested in finding out how our trees are linked.  My 6x Great Grandfather, John FLOWERDEW, was born in Smallburgh around 1713.  He married my 6x Great Grandmother, Anne NICHOLS, there in 1736.

Many thanks again,
Chris.

Hi Joboy,
Many thanks for the information about Elizabeth FLOWERDAY.  I believe she was born in 1795 in Crostwight, Norfolk.  Unfortunately, I haven't, as yet, found a link between her and my FLOWERDAYs, but I'm sure there must be some sort of connection as Crostwight and Lessingham are both close to Stalham!

The Lighter Side / Re: Exciting Discoveries!!
« on: Thursday 28 July 05 13:12 BST (UK)  »
Well done, Jan!
I really liked Annie's comment that your family had waited all this time for someone to take an interest.  I had a similar experience recently in an Oxfordshire village called Duns Tew.

I was looking for my PREEDY family.  I knew they had been in Oxfordshire during the 18th and 19th century, but had no reason to think there was a link with Duns Tew - I had just come across a nice church and, in typical genealogist fashion, decided to explore the churchyard.  There were hundreds of gravestones, most of them barely readable.  However, I was drawn to a line of stones leading towards the main door of the church and, when I looked really closely, I felt sure that some of them had the word PREEDY on them, so I took some digital photographs.  My husband thought I was mad, as he couldn't identify any words on them at all.

However, when we went into the church he was in for a surprise.  Hanging on the wall was an old, but very useful, plan of the churchyard and, guess what, the exact gravestones that I had photographed were confirmed as PREEDY stones!!

I have yet to link those PREEDYs to my line, but I'm sure there must be a connection ... otherwise, why else would they have called me over?!!

Good luck with your research!
Chris.

Hi Holly,
Thank you very much for your kind offer.

The main lines of my FLOWERDAYs and FLOWERDEWs came from the Stalham and Smallburgh areas of Norfolk.  My 6x Great Grandfather was John FLOWERDEW, born circa 1713 in Smallburgh.  He married Ann NICHOLS.  Their son, Robert, married Sarah GRAVENOR and their daughter, Frances, married James RUSHMORE (RUSHMER?) in Stalham in 1792.

I would be grateful to receive any info linked to the FLOWERDAYs.  They seem to have cropped up in various areas of Norfolk, but I would love to find links between the various branches.

Best wishes,
Chris.

Technical Help / Re: PDAs

Hi,
Thank you so much everyone for all the excellent advice.  I have only just joined Rootschat and am already discovering what an valuable and helpful site it is!

I shall now put all the info together and draw up my shortlist.  At the moment, Palm is looking good with, perhaps, either My Roots 4 or Pocket Genealogist.

Thank you for being so helpful!

Chris.
