Thank you so much for your peek at my grt g mother so much information I will endeavour to do some more digging maybe see if I can find a listing for her at the birth index and get a copy birth cert.  :)

She did marry a man called Harry White and went on to have several more children and Harry bought an older dau to the marriage as well. My grdad changed his name to White (his stepdads name) by deed poll in 1946 just before my mum was born.

My grandads copy birth cert lists the address they were
living at (I don't have it with me at mom... I'm at work)  when he was born and that she was a domestic servant and the informant which implies she lived alone. Is it an idea to ask someone to check parish records to see if anyone else was living at the same address.

I will definitely put something on the notice boards too!
Thanks again!

Heather

Hi Hackstaple

I had some help from you some time ago with my grandads partial birth certificate! Since then I haven't done too much research as we have had a few ups and downs at home.

However I have started looking again and would like to progress with my grandads family, his birth cert was blank on fathers side as you suggested it may be! :-X I have been looking his mums parents also I found the census listing for her with the people you mentioned, but I can't seem to find her birth, any chance you can look I have a suspect in Bromsgrove in 1885 but i'm not too sure! :-\

Look forward to your reply
Heather

Dear Hackstaple

Thanks for your reply!

I must admit I have learnt something this week which puts a slant on what you have said, and I have had to think a bit before I replied to you! :-\

My mum managed to track down one of her cousins (using GenesReunited) who still lives in the village my grandad lived in as a boy. She spoke to him on the weekend and this is what he recollects from family stories!

Their grandmother was Mary Elizabeth Miles-Parsonage.
Apparently she was the daughter of landed gentry from the Birmingham area, and there was a story about a servant involved too!
How much of this is true I can't say.

I don't know any more than that but when the birth certificate I have just ordered arrives if there is no father listed as looks likely from this and what you have said is the census from 1901 the best place to go to next, and how do I do that?

Looking forward to your reply.

Regards
Heather
