It seems odd he was a notorious thief when he could also produce such a good signature on his Marriage document- and so did wife Mary Challis. Is there some fall from grace in his biological family preceding his crimes? I'm a descendant.

Armed Forces / Re: British Army Barracks in Ireland 1876-1890

I have members of one of my ancestral families the McCormicks, born in the Enniscorthy Barracks,Co. Wexford over a 150-year period. They were members of the British Army's various Regiments of Foot. Occasionally they were based in Shropshire in England but returned to Enniscorthy if they were still alive after their battle assignments. Family traveled with them all over the world including to Barbados, Jamaica, the East and West Coasts of India, even the Andaman Islands (Spice Islands). I gather families were often left aboard ship anchored offshore to avoid the current conflicts in various places.

I have found Albert Edward Walker and his descendants at last!

He went to New Zealand after he finished school, and quite separately from the rest of the family who sailed in 1906. I found him via DNA Matches with three brothers with surname Walker who were born in New Zealand. They turned out to be Albert Edward's great grandsons and no one else in the Walker family knew about them. Albert (known as Bertie), married Prudence Neville and had two children Edward and Phyllis. He had settled in Auckland, the opposite end of New Zealand's North Island to Wellington where the rest settled and had families.

Norfolk Lookup Requests / Re: KEEBLE family of Starston,Norfolk

The wife of Thomas Keeble was Elizabeth Green, b. 3 NOV 1845, Harleston, Norfolk, England; Reg. Jan 1846 Stow V12 Page 439; mother Carman.
Her parents were Benjamin Green and Elizabeth Carman. She was baptised at the age of 5 just like Thomas Keeble: 16 Nov 1851 at Redenhall with Harleston and Wortwell, England.
Elizabeth died in 1926 in Palmerston North, New Zealand and is buried with her husband at Terrace End Cemetery.
No one could find their marriage in England because it wasn't in Norfolk but in Greenwich:
FreeBMD Marriages Jun 1868
GREEN    Elizabeth        Greenwich    1d   1021
Keeble    Thomas        Greenwich    1d   1021

You can look up these details and more in the New Zealand BDM at https://www.bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz/

I seem to be well along the road to finding a living Gaskin who might prove to be the logical owner of this Family Bible. There is an Edward Gaskin b. 1861 at Willington, Derbyshire with father William Gaskin and son Edward William Gaskin on my Family Tree :D. All these people are associated with Willington, Burton upon Trent or both places. Edward Gaskin is on a side branch of my Tree by marriage so I have not explored him properly, however there are descendants alive today in Cardiff and possibly Hampshire and Oxfordshire. PM me if you think this information might help you. I have a Family Tree you may view online. :D

Staffordshire / Albert Edward Walker b. 1887 Walsall, parents Eliza and William

 ???
Albert Edward Walker was baptised 25 Aug 1887 at St. Pauls, Walsall, Staffordshire. I can find him in the 1891, 1901 and 1911 Censuses but have no idea what happened to him after that. His brother William Walker b. 1870 Walsall married Gertrude Lawrence in 1896 and headed to New Zealand in 1905/06 with their children (including my father Edward Alfred Walker b. 1902 Walsall). Albert does not appear to have followed and was a Pottery Packer at the 1911 Census.
Does anyone local know what happened to Albert? His name is too common for me to order all the possible Death Certificates and I have no clue if he married, went to war or emigrated elsewhere.
Relatives surnames are Douglas, Dickins/Dickens, Lawrence, Butler, Done, Dolman, Peach.
Thank you in advance. Any information would be welcome. :-*

The Common Room / Re: Help and opinions, please

Infant deaths were also due to TB (tuberculosis) and people would have many children in a row who all died within a few months to a few years of birth. Lots of babies on both sides of my family both in the UK and Sydney, Australia, died from TB, esp. in Scotland. Deaths from measles were not uncommon, cholera was common before proper sanitation. As today, lots of stomach bacteria and viruses could easily kill young children. I noted 2 of my would-be aunts died from measles meningitis in the 1910s. Have a look on Google about early Public Health in France and the UK in the 19th century- they concentrated on water-borne diseases in London while developing piped water and sewage. Searching these early health reports can be helpful. http://wellcomelibrary.org/moh/
Happy hunting!

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Re: Lawrence's of St.Pancras - 1851

It might be worth checking the BDMs for New Zealand and the main arrival ports in Australia for marriages of Mary and Henry Lawrences. I found several of each in New Zealand while seeking a Mary Ann Lawrence who is a relative. The NSW BDM is the best start in Australia as it is the most common disembarkation point.
