Yes Malky you have my "man" his first wife died when her son was 3.  If you look at the census for 1901 i think he is again living with his parents.  The son Walter Cannell was my grandfather who had a brother Alf.  There was a stepson but I do not know much about him in fact until I started to research did not in fact know his wifes name :)

And yes it does look like that medal in fact we have a loose ribbon that i think goes with it that is similar to the pic.

thank you both for your info it is great.

Hi

I am wondering if anyone can help me.  During WWI I believe one of her relatives wrote to my grandmother from the trenches and included drawings.  My mother believes these were published in the Bodmin Times or whatever the paper was called.  Does anyone have any idea how I can go about locating these articles.

Thank you Susan - I am going to look around the rim to see if there is a name on it and yes i think it is an original i am not sure as most medals i thought were about 1 in diameter and this is only and 1/2 inch.

Flattybasher9 - I have only assumed this is his medal card as I believe he was in the Cheshire Regiment although i need to check with my mother.  it is definitely not HR Cannell as my relative was Henry Partington Cannell.  Will have to do a bit more research.

Thank you too Forester for your info re the 7th Battalion.

HI

I have the medal index card of my gg-grandfather Henry Cannell of Ches-R (Cheshire) I assume as a Cpl 292729 listed for the Victory and British Medal which have been lost but I also have a medal that I cannot identify that is his i think).  the medal is tiny on able 30mm in diameter with George in his military uniform on the front and "for long service and good conduct'" on the rear.  I think this is the conduct medal but how do i find out who it belongs to?  Also how can i find any further records from his service number as I have searched Ancestry.com and cant find anything.  i have attached a copy of the medal.
