Hello again,

Glad to hear from you. I had a message from another user saying that you need to make three posts then we can PM. Let's see if it works. My IT skills fit my age so fingers crossed.
The Robert I know about was the son of George Stobie and Cecilla I Steedman. George was a cabinet maker. I think George married twice. Robert had three, possible four siblings, Elizabeth, George and Gordon.
Are we talking about the same family?
Best wishes.

Hello,

Sorry for the delay in replying! Yours is the first reply since I posted my information years ago consequently the email got missed. That and my being old.
I have been trying to research the Stobie family on and off for five or six years and have various bits of information which might be of interest to you. I would like to tell you the whole story but would prefer to do so privately if possible. Can you work the Personal Message thing? I just tried and failed miserably.
Let me know what you think.
Best wishes, R.

Does anyone have access to the Thirsk death records for 1976? I would like details of the certificate for Robert Stobie. Born 20th December 1900. Thanks to Jebber I know it is Volume 2, page 2742. All information would be gratefully received.

Thanks to several rootschat members I now have a sketchy outline of my father. Can anyone help fill in the blanks. Robert Stobie, born 1900 Kirkaldy, Fife. Went to New Zealand 1902. Died 1976 in Thirsk, Yorkshire. Widowed in 1947 (wife ellen). Served in the New Zealand force in Greece in 1941. Wounded December 1941.
Lived in York, England after the war but there my info runs out.

I think my father came from New Zealand to UK in the war. Does anyone know of Robert Stobie in this context? Thank you.
