Hi,
some strange circumstances made me taking a photo of the grave of Mr. Albert Schaffhausen and his wife Hannah when I was in Apia in October 2017. Interested?

Yes please. I will PM you.

Tipperary / O'MEARA, Michael & DANE/DEAN, Margaret - missing marriage
« on: Thursday 22 June 17 01:43 BST (UK)  »
Good morning

I have a missing marriage for a couple of my forebears from Tipperary, and having received lots of great help from this forum previously, I thought I would try my luck.

My great-great-grandfather's New Zealand death certificate gives the following information regarding his parents:

Michael O'MEARA
Margaret O'MEARA (nee DEAN)

He was also married in NZ but at that time marriage certs did not record parents.
My Dad's cousin did some research into church records some years back and found these baptism records for the Roman Catholic church in Toomevara, Tipperary:

Daniel 08.07.1850 (my g-g)
Parents: Michael O'Meara, Margaret Dane
Residence: Ollatrim
Sponsors: Patt Meara, Anne Dane

Patt 16.04.1852
Parents: Michael O'Meara, Margaret (surname not recorded)
Residence: Not recorded
Sponsors: Daniel Tierney, May (surname not recorded)

Margaret 07.07.1854
Parents: Michael O'Meara, Margaret (surname illegible)
Residence: Ollatrim
Sponsors: Patt Cleary, Honora Nolan

Daniel & Margaret are both confirmed as siblings since they both migrated to NZ and married here and their descendants are known to each other.

Does anyone have access to these records that could source a marriage for Michael & Margaret O'Meara please?

Many thanks
Nick

Thank you both for your help.

Indeed I did know about Andrew and Mary Holmes, although we never had a baptism record for Mary until now - thank you!

Hi all, thanks for your replies. I don't think Taupau and Aupaau are the same person.
In fact I was given new information, I received an email which provided some information:

"...hannnah wallwork had  other children when he went to war, from some man in manono.... Papa's eldest grandchild is Marina then Tommy then Tui...she died in the Tsunami..then there is Eddie and jackie and Rachel....there is John who is Paula's only son and Hilma had no children as she dieD in WW2.... did you know Albert wasnt his first name....he had an older brother...his mother was englsih...he came from Essen and he ended up in Samoa from Heidelberg he was the Architect for Samoa."

All this suggests that Aupaau was not Schaaffhausen's son at all, but the man who took up with Mrs Schaaffhausen while Albert was away at war. I do know that Aupaau was from Manono, and the email above confirms the man Hannah was with was from there.

I was told also told by my family that our grandmother (Aupaau's daughter) was not raised by her mother and only visited her. This makes sense if Mrs Schaaffhausen returned to Albert upon his return from Germany. If it is true that Taupau is not Albert's son, he may be the brother of our grandmother. Her name was Togamau Aupaau.

The descendents of Albert's son Wilhelm (Pupi) maintain Pupi is Albert's only son.

At the Auckland central library they have the Western Samoan films. I was told there are references to two Schaafhausen births, Johnny and Edward - but no years just reference numbers. They were 1282-14 and 1233-14 in that order on that film 1130493 item 1. These may be the children of Pupi referred to above.

Greetings from New Zealand

I am trying to find more information regarding my great-great-grandmother, and wondered if anyone has the ability to search Presbyterian baptism records for Donegal. She is:

Sarah Maria ORR b. c.1844-1848
Married William HOLMES, 24 Dec 1868, Raphoe.
Emigrated to New Zealand in 1873, husband died accidentally 11 Mar 1885.
Married Robert WATSON, 19 Oct 1886, Christchurch, New Zealand.
Death registered under Sarah Maria WATSON, 24 Jul 1922, Christchurch, New Zealand.

First marriage cert names her father as James ORR.
Second marriage cert names her father as Joseph ORR.
Death cert names her father as James ORR, mother Elizabeth ORR formerly HARPER.

I would very much like to know any information regarding siblings and event dates.

Many thanks
Nick

I am now fairly confident that my Andrew Holmes was NOT a Presbyterian minister.

Also, I was recently in touch with a couple of people who believe that all of the Holmes families from this area are related to each other, and descended from this man:

http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Holmes-5926

Of course it is yet to be proven, but there is quite a lot of info regarding his descendants from the Public Record Office in Nothern Ireland.

To the original poster: Is it possible your forebears moved onto (and subsequently passed away in) New Zealand? Not uncommon. There are some fitting suspects (John) here (No Susan sorry):

Galway / Re: BURKE, Thomas & FRANCIS, Sabina - missing marriage

Right.... having gone through all of this I have found something new from the NZ records. I found a newspaper article which I thought was about the death of Sabina (nee Francis) but was in fact another Sabina whose maiden name was Burke and appears connected to our Burkes by marriage:

 http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast?a=d&d=BH18960915.2.10&l=mi&e=-------10--1----2--

From this I gather that the aforementioned Toby Burke (b. 2/10/1835) married a Burke, here in NZ:

BURKE, Tobias & BURKE, Mary
RGO 9369/1871

and Mary's sister is the Sabina Burke mentioned in the article above. This is her marriage:

HYNES, John & BURKE, Sabina
RGO 1795/1890
Married 29 Dec 1890 in Milton, Otago, New Zealand

Sabina's parents are listed as William Burke and Mary, whose maiden name appears to be either Walter/Walters or Lualter/Lualters.

Now I'm wondering if Toby and his wife are related!
