Hello Linda,
I haven't been keeping up todate with my family tree, I got a bit stuck at 1600 ish and got a bit disheartened.  I will check my spreadsheet later today and see if I have your gt grandmother, thinking back she must be the daughter of Harriet & Thomas Simmons.

He was born in Ashburnham Sussex about 1859.

1881 Lived at Church Fields, West Malling as a lodger and farm labourer to the Hollands family.
1901 he was Head Farm Baliff in West Malling.
His nephew Edward Norrington, and niece Emily, also lived with the family

Hi,  Thank you for the suggestions, unfortunately the Cityark records do not contain any entries for bmd at St Peters & St Pauls, Milton after 1889.  I have already established where the family were living using the census records.  I was rather hoping someone would have some first hand knowledge of that generation of Simmons, that they could share.
Thank you again
Sheila

Kent / Simmons Gravesend
« on: Wednesday 07 February 07 09:57 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I'm seeking any information on the descendants of Thomas Simmons, Thomas and wife Harriet moved from Sussex to Gravesend in 1870.
The children of Thomas and Harriet are Bernard, Charlotte, Thomas, Harriet, William, Florence, Albert, Ada, George, Frederick and Henry.
The family lived 5 Albion Terrace and then 64 Milton Road Gravesend.  I know that Bernard and George died as children and Charlotte married John Humphrey but she died when she was just 21.  I believe that Thomas jnr moved to West Ham in 1901 to work as a printer.  Any further information from approx1870, on this family would be much appreciated.
Thank You

Hi Kerry,
The Simmons/Pilbeam family tree is certainly interesting!  Do you have any dates available for the folk you have mentioned.  I have the approx dates of the births for Sarah, Francis and James Simmons, but nothing for the marriages or deaths, of both them and their spouses.
Many thanks
Sheila

Kent / Gravesend Coal Company, Canal Basin
« on: Tuesday 18 July 06 20:07 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I am keen to find out any information/photographs of the Gravesend Coal Company which was sited at Gravesend Canal Basin.  I believe my Great Grandfather Thomas Simmons was once the manager, between 1881 to 1901.  I would be interested to know when the company ceased trading, and if anyone had any relations also working there.

Many thanks

Hi Kerry,

Hope all is well with you!!  Just to let you know that a relative also following the Simmons family back in time has Thomas c1700, married Elizabeth Boys on the 30th May 1721 by licence at Rye.  These were the parents of Thomas 1724, married to Grace Parks.  Prior to this date he believes that the surname was spelt Symonds.

Hope this is useful

Regards Sheila
