Hi Lu,
Thank you very much for your time collating that info.  Was there anything mentioned about estate value or what he owned?
I do not have a copy of Kathleen Obituary can you send please?   I do have a copy of her birth certificate.  I have seen her name written both as Kathleen and Catherine so makes it difficult to trace.  Also her maiden name I have seen recorded as Moran and Monahan.
It was good to get finalisation of the siblings names as I had pieced together all the boys but was not certain of the girls names as most births I could not locate on NZ BDM.
As far as our family being linked I am not sure...the family names are very similar and origin being Waterford Ireland I dare say they could have some connection that we have not discovered yet.
Could you do me a favour the next time you are at the probate record facility could you look up Kathleen (Catherine) McGrath.
Thanks
Neal
Opps..just realised that I made a mistake...I do not have a copy of Kathleen birth cert, I have a copy of her death cert.  Kathleen McGrath is buried in Masterton’s Archer Street cemetery.  She was the landlady at the Blairlogie Hotel (no longer in existence) some miles east of Masterton.  Her “late” husband Michael McGrath was said to have been well known in racing circles.  She had been in the Wairarapa for 18 years

Hello McGrath_downunder

* Are you still seeking information for this Maurice McGRATH  (d.1910 Co. Waterford - late of Masterton, New Zealand) ?

  ~  Lu

Hi Lu,
Yes, I a have not gotten very far at all discovering ancestry on Irish soil. I am seeking information on Maurice McGrath snr and his brothers.  Michael McGrath snr (my GG Grandfather) died suddenly in 1910 at his sister's house " Ballyristen,"and buried in in Ireland while he was on a trip back to the old country from New Zealand.  I can PM you extracted copy of 1911 census showing what I believe is his sister and extract from NZ Wairarapa Daily Times dated 5 September with a story announcing the death of Michael McGrath snr.  The article also mentioned that he was a brother of Canon Mcgrath and indicates he was still in Ireland.  I have no knowledge on Canon Mcgrath or any other siblings or parents that I did not list in the posting.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you and kind regards
Neal McGrath

Hi,

I have traced my great great grandfather and some of his brothers to Waterford, but that is about it. As far as towns have been linked (with little) supporting evidance is Kill, Kilmacthomas, Dungarvan, Ballyristeen  and Mountain Castle .

Michael McGrath born around 1850 +/- 5 years migrated to Wellington region New Zealand  before 1882 (I think 1881).  Died Ireland July/August/September 1910. Died at sister residence ballyristeen, sister name unkown.  Was well known in NZ as a horse trainer.

Brother...Maurice T McGrath (building Contractor), migrated Wellington regoin New Zealand around 1881. Died in NZ 1906

Brother...Father William McGrath, migrated to Bathurst NSW Australia, then to Wellington New zealand Died NZ 1906.

Brother...Canon McGrath who I beleive may have stayed in Ireland.

A starting point or some advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Castlemcauliffe

Hi Castlemecauliffe,
I am trying to trace family originating from Kill.  Michael McGrath born around 1850/60 migrated to NZ around 1880.  Married a Kathleen Morahan in NZ who also was Irish and assume from same region.  Michael McGrath is I believed to be buried in Kill death would have been around 1900.  He was a publican, horse trainer and a drunk, had a brother called Maurice migrated NZ and a paster William(Bill) who all migrated to Australia then NZ.  Any info on how to search for family information would be great.  Family names include Maurice, Thomas, William, John and Patrick...I know there must be a million of McGraths in Ireland with these names.
