Lancashire / Princess Street Widnes
« on: Sunday 18 July 10 17:26 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I was wondering if anyone knows how i could go about obtaining a photograph of Princess Street, Widnes taken in the 1930's.  My Mother was born at number 10 Princess Street and for her birthday i thought it might be nice to have a photo of her birth place.

Also does anyone know why number 10 Princess Street no longer exists.  I understand that only part of the street has survived.  I am not from Widnes so i dont know the history.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thank you for your help

Kind regards

Kimberly

Hi

I wonder if anyone could point me in the right direction i am trying to trace any military records of my Grandad James Harold Edwards 1876 - 1946.  I understand that he served with the Welsh Guards and may have been involved in the Boar War.  I have looked at sites relating to the Boar War and claiming medals for service in both world war's but have become unstuck.

Does anyone know what my next move is please?

Thank you very much for your time

Hello Everyone

Thank you so much for all your wonderful responses regarding this posting.  From the Research i have already undertaken a James Edwards was a Waggoners Boy on a farm.  This is also the only James Edwards fitting the age range and birth of 1836.  So bingo!

On the baptism register for Whittington there was a James Edwards born to a William and Mary, William's occupation was listed as Agricultural Labourer.

According to Shropshire County Council researches this family appear to have left Whittington by 1851.  Pardoning my geography, would Boot Street appear under a different district?

On James marriage certificate in 1860 his father was listed as a Wood Ranger.  James married at Monmore Green, Birmingham, would that have been near Whittington?

Thank you all so much for all your help.  I appreciate it greatly.

Merry Christmas  :)

Hi Carole

Thank you very much for replying.  I hadnt realised that i could obtain the information from the Library, i was previously given the impression that i could just make searches in the locality and not nationally.

As it happens 1837online have sorted my computer problem this evening,

Thank you once again.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Jack Hayes

 :D  Hello

Further to my previous posting regarding Jack Hayes the former Widnes Rugby Player.  I have been very kindly informed that Jack married a Dot in 1948.

I have checked ancestry.co.uk and they dont have any listing for Jack, i know the records are somewhat incomplete.

Unfortunately, i cannot access the 1837online site due to an ongoing issue with my computer settings.

I wondered if someone who has access to the Widnes Marriage registers would be prepared to have a look for the marriage reference for Jack.

Any help would be much appreciated

Thank you

Hi William

Havent forgotten the Photographs, will forward them on in due course.  There are one or two other Johnson Children i am finalising details on, so i will include them at a later date.

With reference to your wonderful website, are all the Conway birth dates taken from the Transcripts of the Flintshire birth records or census dates?

Take Care

Kimberly
