I know he was definitely there in that period as he got an American woman pregnant! 😂
So I’ve found another uncle that we never knew about.

And he was Scottish, would that make any difference?

Thanks all!
Chas, yes something is definitely mixed up! He was definitely there Feb/Mar/Apr 1944 as that’s when he got someone pregnant!
Yeah, not sure of why he was there exactly. And we don’t have a service number.
His name was Charles Allan Lobban born June 1912. He often went by Allan or Alan.

World War Two / Navy or merchant navy?

Hi, I wondered if any of you could help?
I’m looking for any records of my grandfather as he was supposed to be in the merchant navy - so far I’ve hit a blank!
Can’t find anything in his name in both navy and merchant navy, it’s not clear which he was actually in.
Thanks to ancestry dna test, we’ve found a half-uncle, he never knew his dad as his mum got pregnant in 1944, in Boston, in America. Now, apparently his submarine (?) was in dry-dock in Boston from 1943-44.
Is there any way I can find the name of the sub, and hopefully trace his records that way?

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: Could someone confirm suspicions?

That's the thing, they don't have a tree as his father was a war baby and all they had is a name...
My 1st cousins show as matches to him, as do most of 2nd and 3rd cousins - but most are on my grandfathers side of the family anyway...

Well, the name this person has for his grandfather is unbelievably close to my grandfather. And not like any of the other siblings names.

Thanks!
It seems a little high to be a half cousin, doesn't it? I think it means my dad has another brother!

So just had a match come up for my parent as:
1st–2nd Cousin
Shared DNA: 854 cM across 28 segments (on ancestry)

Now I’ve looked at the dna painter thing, and I’m not sure if I’m reading it correctly, could this also be a half-niece/nephew?

Wow! Looks like it could be!  ;D
You are stars!
Chapman/Jacmon could be correct as they sound similar?
