Family History Beginners Board / Casablanca birth records
« on: Saturday 17 February 18 11:24 GMT (UK)  »
My mother-in-law was Severine Adragna born  23rd April 1922 in Casablanca to an Italian father (Antonino).

I have searched high and low and cannot find any more details. At the time Casablanca was under French rule; it's possible that records were destroyed after the French were forcibly removed. Has anyone any advice as to where I could find such details as birth certificates etc? Many thanks.
Richard. (*)

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Stevens - Stenning family trees - DNA test
« on: Sunday 14 September 14 07:25 BST (UK)  »
Background: Stephen Stenning (b.1805, Wisborough Green, West Sussex). Married a Stevens who soon died. Her sister took over the wifely duties and they had several children, all of whom, later in life, changed their surname to Stevens.

Well this is the story, but is it true? I've just had a y-DNA test (results not through yet) and was wondering if any Stenning, or indeed Stevens from  the Surrey/Sussex area has had a DNA test?

Thanks, Richard Stevens.

"Around" not "round" of course; apologies.

The pages now open for us...the server must have been down earlier.

Please feel free to pm us.

Again, many thanks,

Richard

Dear JoRose,

So many thanks again for winkling out even more information!

I wasn't meaning you to do all the hard work ...just to tell us where to find the info.

Unfortunately I cannot open any of the links except for the last one ( the page you want is not accessible). Is there a way round this?

Again, many thanks,

Richard and Jacqueline.

Thanks PolarBear and Larkspur,

I've been able to access the marriage certs and have printed them off. Great!

I've accessed another couple of trees pertaining to the Taylors and have emailed the owners to say that I have further details on Gertrude Taylor and the Stenning-Stevens families.

I trawled through BMD this morning looking for Gert's birth - but unable to find. I'll go back and look again.

Her death is even more of a mystery. She was Gertrude Stevens then and I thought she died in 1956-ish in Bath - but I could be wrong. Any advice as to how I can expedite a successful search would be very welcome!

Thanks again for such a friendly and helpful series of correspondences.

Yours,

Richard (Stevens)

Hi again,

I've spent several hours more on this and haven't got much further. I think a visit to Nott Records Office is called for.
I have Harriet Graves b.9/12/1885 and died aged 91.
Walter b. 28 April 1885 aged 88.

I have the ref for John Taylor and Mary Nicholes marriage (nott 7b/240)  and Harriet's (nott 7b/646), but am unable to go any further. How did you get the original certs without paying Ancestry's £22+ fee?

A big 'ask' I know, but would it be possible for you to send them to me (either here if attachments are allowed or to me email address?)

Many thanks,
Richard

Children to John Taylor  and Mary Nicholes were

Samuel TAYLOR married Adelaide Varney
1870
Kate TAYLOR
1873 –
John TAYLOR
1875 –
Florence TAYLOR
1877 – 1911
Ada TAYLOR
1879 –
Gertrude TAYLOR married Henry Stevens
1881 –
Leonard TAYLOR
1883 –
Sarah TAYLOR
1884 –
Harriett TAYLOR married Walter Thomas Graves
1885 –

Well Judi, what can I say? Very many thanks.  The info ties with what I had on the 1901 census but Samuel was an unexpected revelation.

Harriett was married to Walter Thomas and not Walter John?

I can't find the Taylor parents in 1911 . Perhaps died? Perhaps John died and Harriet moved back to B'ham . (I MAY have found her in 1911 in B'ham with the Roberts Family - Adelaid(e) seems an unusual name and link!)

I have a subscription to Ancestry but still cannot access the marriage details you've uncovered. I'm obviously doing something wrong. Please could you help me? (I can give some kind of evidence that I am a member). I would dearly like to print the two marriage certs.

I'm most certainly in your debt!
