Unsourced trees are a big problem. They just add to the many irrelevant 'hints' that subscription sites seem to return.

It takes some time to find the page but this has VAD personnel in WWI. Found my wife's great aunt as a ward sister and 'Mentioned in Dispatches'

Thanks Maddy, I shall have a look. Unfortunately moocs are addictive and they take time away from researching my tree! I found a lot of good info from RootsChat boards last night. Now need to work on it!

Hi, thanks for those welcome comments  :) Perhaps one of the problems was a lack of a true outline for the course, so I was expecting too much from it. For the last 2 or 3 (or 3 or 4!) weeks I was just reading through the information and gave up making comments. The comments I read didn't progress the lessons in any way, so became rather boring. The articles didn't really further my knowledge that I've gained through experience. I doubt if the four years that I've been researching makes me an expert but most of it was very much general common sense. I have taken other FutureLearn courses and they have been truly excellent. Does anyone know of any other online courses similar to FutureLearn?

I've only really become aware of RootsChat since I finished the FutureLearn course. I'm still getting used to how it works! Your ideas about the course have agreed with mine. I will look back at the course as there were some things that I found useful and they will help me in my research. You say that you had a common avatar when you made your comments. What did it look like, so that when I see it as I read comments I can then relate it to this forum?

My email said that they had 122,000 comments posted during the course! Did they read them all?

I agree with all the comments re FutureLearn genealogy. The feedback from staff was disappointing and everyone was anecdotal. I gave up making comments after the first couple of weeks. Perhaps the organisers have learnt from their own course, but more likely happy with the sycophants! I've taken other FutureLearn courses so will look to see if any others on family history.

Hi groom. There were some good points about the course but I do find it strange that some are over the top in their praise. Perhaps they are the only ones who can be bothered to reply.
