Carmarthenshire Lookup Requests / Re: Newbie in Despair! Pencarreg Birth
« on: Friday 04 February 22 10:34 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Jan,

Yes I know how it is pronounced and the different spellings over time.  Remember it got anglo-sized for example Killy Blaidd.  Anyway, I am trying to see if there is a connection between a David Jones and wife Eleanor of Cilblaidd and my ancestor as he appears on her marriage in 1803, Pencarreg.  I do  know that this David Jones had 3 children Thomas 1803, Mary 1806, William 1805.  Also, do you know if there are any Monumental Inscriptions for Pencarreg?? My ancestor was a Margaret Jonathan who married a Thomas Davies, Pencarreg in 1803

thanks Helen

I noticed a David and Elinor Jones of Cilblaidd baptising a child in 1803.  Were there 2 families at this place? Jones and Evans

Hi Jan
I've since found Benjamin's birth record in Llanybydder.  However, what attracted me to your kind reply was the name Ciblaidd.  I've seen it written different ways.  I am trying to understand the location.  Benjamin's parents, Thomas Davies and Margaret nee Jonathon as written on the birth entry were from Pencarreg although I'm not sure about mother Margaret.  A David Jones of Cilybilaydd signed as a witness in 1803 on their marriage; also their daughter Rachel had a witness to her marriage in 1834 of a John Evans, Ciblylaidd.  I'm wondering if it is the one and same?  I am  having trouble working back.   Margaret Jonathon could have been a 'Jones' initially.  Also a Timothy Thomas, Maes was a witness in 1803.  I've googled him.  Their daughter, Rachel, married a William Evans but I don't think its the same family.  If you have any other details on this Cilblaidd, it might help me in finding more info on Benjamin's parents Thomas Davies and Margaret Jonathon.  Many thanks

Helen

Would love a look up please? Looking for a John Burton, Brazier of Meadow Lane, Leeds. Not sure when he was born or where but know it’s Yorkshire possibly around Leeds area. Was married 1800, so I’m assuming birth around circa 1780s. Was living Meadow Lane birth of daughter Mary in 1817.

Many thanks H

Thank you MaureenNY. That would explain why I couldn't find the neighbours, yet some places/farms in Llancrwys are shown, so it must be just parts of Llancrwys that are missing, and just my luck it's the parts I want! Thanks for the swift reply.

Carmarthenshire / 1861 Census
« on: Saturday 20 May 17 16:46 BST (UK)  »
I wondered if anyone could help or possibly shed some light.  I have traced a family member 1851, then 1871 -1901 on the census.  They appeared at the same farm constantly. (farm is Waunbant) However, I cannot for the life of me find them on 1861. I've tried finding the area, then scouring through the pages.  Does anyone know whether parts of the 1861 are missing?  I wondered this as I, not only tried to trace the family through mother, father and a son from the 1851 and then another from the 1971, but I also tried to trace some neighbours in order to get somewhere near, but I can't even find them!!!

The family in question as per 1851 are :
Waunbant, Mynachty Hamlet, Llancrwys, Carmarthenshire
Thomas Jones, 1818, born Llancrwys, Farmer aged 33
Mary Jones, 1821, born Conwil Caio, wife aged 30
John Jones, 1845, born Llancrwys, son aged 6

1871
Waunbant, Forest Hamlet, Llancrwys, Carmarthenshire
Thomas Jones, 1817 born Llancrwys, farmer aged 54
Mary Jones, 1821, born Conwil Caio, wife, aged 50
Thomas Jones, 1864, born Llancrwys, son aged 7

Many thanks to anyone who picks up my message.

Carmarthenshire / Re: Elizabeth Davies - Caio

Thanks for the reply! Thanks for offering to have a look and ask around. For the record, there were 2 children. An older brother Thomas born 1867, but I'm currently looking at Elizabeth born 1874. The mother of both children was Mary Davies. She lived in Cwrt y Cadno and I am told by one of the grandchildren of Elizabeth and a cousin that Sir James Drummond is involved somewhere. Also when I asked my grandmother who was the father of her mother, she said one of the sons of the mansion over the hill? Look forward to hearing from you

Hi Edwinsford Farmhouse
Is this the large house that I once saw near Talley that was in need of much modernisation? I'm not that good at geography but I remember a few years ago searching out the place Edwinsford, and driving down a long driveway to what must have been once quite a stately home! Don't think I was actually allowed to go down the drive way, but if I got caught, I was going to plead ignorance! lol
Anyway, my research and conncection is that my g.grandmother was illegitimate and the story is that there was some connection to Sir James Drummond of Edwinsford, hence my original first post and interest.  Still searching for years to find the 'daddy'.  Sounds like you've uncovered some fun history and photos - if any letters mention giving money to a Mary Davies - (the mother of the child, Elizabeth) then I'm all ears!

Look forward to hearing from you
