Haven't been to the graves yet but hoping to go this summer.  Obits seems to give incorrect information- says Margaret was born in Edinbugh on 12-18-1824 but there is no record of it on Scotland's People-at least that I could find. Ancestry.com says she was born in Ireland. Seems the children may have improvised where she was born.  And there were no mention in either obit of parents. Such a puzzle.

Margaret died in Iowa as did her son Jamews (my ggrandfather).  Unfortunately, the death certificates has been "lost"- not really good record keeping in the 1890's- early 1900's.

Hi Elwyn- I think we have been in contact before on Ancestry and I have made no progress in finding either William or Margaret!  Margaret died in the US and William seems to have just disappeared.  He was in the 1861 census but then gone.  Seems that the remaining family lived with the Smellies when the 1871 census was taken in April and then immigrated in June of that year. -

Tara- unfortunately no.  The information I got off of Scotland's people did not contain it.

Unfortunately the actual death certificate appears to have been lost for her and her son, my ggrandfather.  Not the greatest record keeping back then!

Hi -I am new to this site and am a descendent of a Margaret McKenzie born around 1824.  Her obit says she was born on 12-18-1824 in Edinburg but the censuses say she was born in Ireland.  Could this be the same Margaret?  She married William Harper in Blantyre in 1844 and her children were all born in Lanarkshire. I have been looking for her for 2 years.
