Dumfriesshire / Re: William Waugh .
« on: Saturday 25 October 14 18:18 BST (UK)  »
I have a connection with the Waugh family and Shearer on another side of the family. I have a bit on the Shearer Family as that was my Mother in-laws Family. So I am interested in William. Maxwell Waugh married Isabella Lees and they helped to bring up Isabella Agnes Jane Lees she was illegitimate born at Sandbed. She, took the name Waugh. Isabella Waugh was sister to Jane, Isabella, mother. When Maxwell died Isabella his wife was with Isabella her niece. My Isabella married William Mckie and Isabella Waugh was living with them in Kirkbean on a farm Their first child was called Maxwell.
Can you tell me if Maxwell and Isabell had any family of their own?

Kind Regard

« on: Thursday 13 February 14 00:35 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I am trying to trace Stephen family in Deganam in Essex born around 1807. He married Jane Brown from Dumfries and has their first daughter Mary in Northern Ireland while Stephen was in his Surry Regament. They went on and had Son Stephen, Sarah, John, William all born in Essex and Samual born in Dumfries. Father Stephen died in Dumfries in 1863 the year after Sam . Would love to know more about Stephen I have his army record and it is very interesting. Would love to find out how he met Jane his wife wondered was he posted in Scotland.  Jane remarried Alexander Stevenson around 1865 and died in Dumfries Workhouse as also in Carlise workhouse too in 1881. Lots on the Creasey family I could share, please get in contact. Stephens parents where Father Stephen mother, I think Mary.
Kind Regards
Karen ;D
Many thanks

Dumfriesshire / Layden family from Dumfries originally from Leitem/Sligo
« on: Wednesday 12 February 14 23:52 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I am new to this forum and have enjoyed reading all your tips. I have lots of information on my Family the Laydens spelt many ways originally from Leitem Francis my GGgrandfather and Winifred Curran came over around 1846 with their daughter Mary.  Travelled with many other Catholic families who all settled around the Maxwelltown part of Dumfries worked on farm's and later on in life as a  railway surfaceman. I have recently found he had an older sister called Ann who married a Michael Goldie. They lived in Maxwelltown too. On Ann's death cert it has father Francis and mother Ann Ward. Her brother Francis death cert has father also Francis but his mother was Mary Hart. All very confusing, maybe first wife died. Any help would be appreciated. If I can pass any information and pictures conecting with my family only to pleased to share info.   I work in a library in dumfries so willing to help  any way I can. Karen
