Hi Stretch

I am sorry we have offended you, with what we have found for Coleen, but I must say, I would be proud to have such a women has Eliza in my tree, warts and all, and the world to know about it, she pick herself up after being deserted by her husband, and made a seemingly good life for her and her family, and this is the history of her life, and should be celebrated, I don't think she did any wrong doing,  has John did not return after the war, she thought he had died.

Well said Margp, spoken like a true genealogist!!

These appear to be the Civil Certs but there is no quarter given

Thank you. My mother was born in Cambridge, England, so I am very familiar with English records. However, I've sort of put my great grandmother Keogh's line on the back burner because it is expensive to research (unless you can pin down a "for certain" record). Thank you very much for this information.

The Rootsireland site appears to have the births of Mary (1864) and Michael (1871) to these parents. That’s pay to view. However it should tell you where in the county the family were living at that time. You should be able to get birth certificates for the births from 1864 onwards (when birth registration started). The full birth certs may contain slightly more info than is found on the on-line transcripts.

Excellent tip on how to pin down the county, thank you!!

Tipperary / How do I get started in Tipperary Records?
« on: Wednesday 02 July 14 08:42 BST (UK)  »
My great grandmother Margaret Keogh was born 20 December 1861 in Tipperary. Her parents are listed as James Keogh and Mary Burke (Bourke) who married in Tipperary 6 May 1855. Their other children were Catherine b. 12 May 1856, Bridgett b. 15 February 1859, Mary b. 29 May 1864, Elizabeth b. 6 May 1867 and Michael b. 6 July 1871 (all in Tipperary). What part of Tipperary I don't have a clue, which church/parish/etc. I do not know. What's my first step to find out more about James Keogh and Mary Burke (Bourke)? Are any records online?

I am glad I could help Coleen, if you had sent for the MC in Alaska, it would have taken 2/3 weeks to arrive, where has in the UK it takes a week

Not sure about this but........

1920 at that address with George & Percy Ernest Gaymer are
John Gaymer
Mary Gaymer
A Bain
J J H Woods

These may just be coincidences but thought I'd post anyway

J Eaton / M Gaymer marriage Mar 1943 Rochford (Essex)

And a death

John Eaton age 74  (1879) Jun 1953 Rochford vol 4a page 537

This is a final follow-up on the Eliza Jane (nee Morrall) Eaton-Dunklee   search.

the marriage certificate of John Eaton and Mary Gaymer.

married 15 March 1943 in the District of Rochford.
John Eaton age 64 Mary Gaymer age 68, both resided at Sunnyside, Lower Road, Hockley.

His father is listed as John Roger Eaton (deceased) and
Her father is listed as James Saunders (deceased)

So......it appears to be the same John Eaton I've been searching for!!  Finally, the family knows what happened to this man. He did not die in the war as Eliza Jane maintained her entire life.

Well Coleen that's certainly great news and a great result for everyone that has contributed to your thread

I was certainly hoping that when I posted the information on a possible marriage for a
John Eaton to Mary Gaymer in Rochford that they might have been the correct people

So it's a very strong possibility that the death entry I had posted previously for John Eaton may be correct too given his age of 64 when he married. The details are above if you are thinking of obtaining his death certificate

jaywit - what another great find I did wonder when I posted the Electoral Register details for
Percy whether John & Mary were his parents

so we know who Mary Gaymer was born c1875

1901c RG13; Piece: 157; Folio: 13; Page: 18
married to John Gaymer with sons Percy & John
she was born 1874 New Buckenham, Norfolk

for info here's Mary in 1881 with her grandparents James & Mary Saunders

So the M Gaymer mystery is solved  :)

Yes, Ladyhawk, the mystery is solved thanks to some wonderfully generous people here on rootschat, and just in time for my birthday tomorrow!!  Thanks all!!!!!

Coleen  Wow that guess on the marriage was correct, so pleased it answered the question.

What did John say about his marital status?

I bet he never thought Eliza would end up back in England. If he knew she had gone to Alaska he would have thought she was well out of the way.

John Eaton listed himself as widower and Mary Gaymer listed herself as widow.  I think you are correct about John Eaton expecting Eliza Jane to remain outside the UK   ;)
