Devon / THOMPSON family 1790 onwards
« on: Wednesday 26 October 11 19:54 BST (UK)  »
Seeking descendants of John & Cath Thompson, m. St George Stonehouse 12 September 1790.  I'm descended from their youngest daughter Priscilla b. 1807.  They seem only to have had daughters, all baptized at St Andrews Plymouth between 1790 and 1807:  Eliza, Sally, Cath Holden, Jane, Betsy, Elizabeth and Mary as well as Priscilla.   Priscilla died in childbirth in Plymouth Workhouse, giving birth to son John Edward Thompson, my g g g grandfather.

Thanks to you both for all that.  I think she may have been Esther, born 12/2/1868 in Glasgow.  Her father's birthplace fits in with other stuff I have.  She opened a hat shop in Glasgow called Emma Jay(e) so might have changed her name for "professional" reasons!

Devon / Priscilla THOMPSON d. 1834
« on: Monday 04 January 10 15:22 GMT (UK)  »

Still stuck on this one.  She died in childbirth in Plymouth workhouse in 1834.  That workhouse was run by St Andrews and Charles the Martyr parishes.  Has anyone come across a Thompson family thereabout, with wayward (or unlucky) daughter?

Searching for Jacobs family, probably Glasgow.  Daughter Emma noted in 1901 census as born Scotland 1871, visiting Bedford at time of census.  Can't find her - maybe another forename?

Maybe your ancester's writing was a bit hard to read.  There is a place called Bagan Seri in the state of Perak, and Sungai means (I think) river.  If you google the names they will tell you where they are.  There are several histories of rubber plantations in Malaysia. Guthries is the name that springs to mind - I think they bought out several of them after independence.

Searching for Abrahams brothers (+ one wife) sailing to (and then from) South Africa early 1880s, possibly from Leith?  Is there a site or does anyone have any hints for pursuing?

Yep, that's us - except I have him baptized Yealmpton 24/3/1761.  Was Daniel first married to Jane Grieg?  I have him bap. 6/1/1759 by the way.    And we weren't in touch years ago, were we?  I'd just started researching and someone who was descended, or his wife was, from Daniel got in touch with me.  Daniel had a colourful history?
Are you prepared to exchange email addresses - and how do we do it offline??

Thanks for that. I know Henry Jenkins was born in Swimbridge, christened 22/11/1722, son of John Jenkins and Mary Heale, who m Swimbridge 26/5/1720. Mary was christened Swimbridge 5/11/1691.

I also know of a John Kennison christened Yealmpton 26/4/1679, father also John.

Where do you go with the Jenkinses after that?  I can bring them up to date via Henry's son Wm.   Any help to you?
