World War One / Re: Machine Gun Corps Help please

Under Reason for Discharge could it say something like "Para[graph] 302 [clause] xvi KR [Kings Regulations] Sick" and perhaps such a regulation says two legs are needed? or loss of one is reason to be discharged?

Montgomeryshire / Re: Meifod Main Independent Chapel Records?
« on: Tuesday 29 August 23 17:29 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I have a copy of Parish of Meifod Main Independant Chapel, Baptisms but the surname Taylor does not appear in any of the listings by: Childs surname, Mother's maiden name or Fathers surname. I've looked at dates of all Mary Jones baptisms but none match.
Regards,
Jonathan

Hi.
With a hallmark you should be able to find out who made it which may help.

Thanks Carol and Jim, I don't know who this is, and given the 1890s date suggested don't have anybody to link it to in London or that area prior to WW1.
Thanks again.

Hi,
Found these two photos in a box from N.Wales but seem to be taken around or in London. Any help regarding date or anything else appreciated. Nothing on the back of the 2nd photo, just a partial studio logo on the surround.
Thanks,
Jon

Hi,
I came across a mention of a 'Jim and Pattie' who  turned out to be 'Richard James (Jim) who married Martha Margaret (Pattie)'.

World War One / Re: Help on finding out where a RASC Regiment served in WWI

Hi again,
I see FindMyPast lists him https://www.findmypast.co.uk/transcript?id=GBM%2FMCI%2F0995509but doesn't add much other than:
Gives his rank as Staff Sergeant

Provides this link to his medal index card http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/SearchUI/Details?uri=D1981982

I see that Ancestry transcriptions for at least one other ASC soldier gives "WO 329" as "Company" so this would seem to be an error.

Hi,
i put WO 329 into Google and it took me here https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/browse/r/h/C14533 are you sure its his Company Number?

Also the Long, Long Trail mentions the T4 prefix https://www.longlongtrail.co.uk/soldiers/a-soldiers-life-1914-1918/letter-prefixes-to-british-soldiers-numbers-in-the-first-world-war/

Hi,
Horse Transport Companys (HT Coy)  "included farriers, saddlers and wheelers as well as transport men" [Butcher, The Journal of the Western Front Association, 2014] . HT training was carried out in depots in Aldershot, Bradford and Woolwich [M. Young, Book:Army Service Corps 1902 - 1918, 2012] and the Enlistment Report page of an individual should show if he trained at Woolwich.

Foe example:

ARMY SERVICE CORPS      ATTESTED   Wheeler   26.11.1915
Joined at   WOOLWICH   On      27.11.1915

That should explain why 'Woolwich', Do you know what Company he was in and if it was assigned to a Divisional Supply Chain?

I think during WW1 it was ASC, the R came later.
