Derry (Londonderry) / Re: Baird Family

Hi Everyone

I realise this is an old post. I am related to the Rankin's of Knockmult but have recently had a DNA match to this family in Mullinhead.

Would anyone know if Mary Anne Baird (nee Rankin) of Mullinhead and the Rankin family of Knockmult are related?

Thanks in advance.

Thank you for this information.

Re Reply #1
On Dorothy's marriage certificate (from GRONI) her father's profession is recorded as Dec'd.

Witnesses are W J Bradley & Lily (or Liby) McAuley.

Does this help?

Hi to all the Soutter Family Researchers.

My Great Grandmother was Dorothy Soutter - known as Dolly. She married my great grandfather John Campbell on 4th August 1930 in Coleraine Registrar Office. Her father James was Dead, and her address is given as Ballindreen. She states her age as 30 years old.

I have been unable to locate her on the 1901 or 1911 NI Census. I have also been unable to locate a birth record for her.

She died on 7th July 1956 and is laid to rest in St Paul's, Kildollagh. As her death is advertised in the Belfast News Letter, I am assuming she does not originate from Ballindreen.

Any information or guidance would be greatly appreciated as I am at a complete dead-end with this search. To date, I have no confirmed death certificate for her father either.

Thank You

Hi to all the Soutter Family Researchers.

I realise this thread is 6 years old but as Soutter/Suitter/Sutter seems a hard name to find - I thought I could continue on this thread.

Hi John

Yes - it is the same family!

John and Mary married in Aghadowey Church of Ireland as you say - both are from Maevemanougher. John's father is called Robert Boyce - Mary's is called Edward Friel.

If you checkout the 1831 Census - Robert Boyce of Maevemanougher & his family are Presbyterian. Edward Friel and his family of Bushtown are Roman Catholic.

I cannot categorically state that these are in fact the parents of John and Mary but one should consider a marriage of mixed religion to be a possible explanation of why the marriage occurred in Church of Ireland.

The child births/baptisms that I located for the children of John and Mary record them as Roman Catholic.

Regards

Hi John

I assume your great grandmother to be Margaret Jane Boyce who married Michael Convery.

This being the case - her parents - as you said are Thomas Boyce and Eliza Anne McKeever. Eliza Anne's mother is Eliza McKeever (1853-1925) - daughter of John and Betty McKeever of Shanlongford - the couple to which this thread refers!

Eliza's baptism is on 16th March 1853 in St. Mary's Church, Ballerin. Her parents are listed as John McKeever & Elizabeth Cochran. Her sponsors are J O'Doherty (pp) & Margaret Black.

This connection is made using the 1901 and 1911 NI Census - Thomas and Eliza Anne's daughter Eliza Boyce is found on the 1911 Census living with her Grandmother Eliza McKeever at house 9 Shanlongford. However, Eliza McKeever states she is 65 years old and single!

I hope this helps to join the dots for you.

Hi All

Ref Reply #53 I didn't notice that Mary Ann's brother George is living with her in 1910 US Census. He gives his DOB as October 1855. He dies in 1939 in Elmira, Stark, Illinois, USA. He is a bachelor. His birthplace on the death record I found is recorded as Garvagh.

So that's another sibling for the list in Reply #48.

Re Mary A McKeever (b1859) m Alexander J Forbes

Could this be the headstone of Mary A Forbes (nee McKeever)? The birth date would appear to be incorrect!
https://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=forbes&GSfn=mary&GSmn=a&GSbyrel=all&GSdyrel=all&GSob=n&GRid=10522753&df=all&

In the 1880 US Census she is single & living in West Toulon, Stark Illinois working as a servant - born 1858. Immigrated 1877.

In the 1900 US Census she is 45, married with 6 children living in Elmira, Stark, Illinois. She records her birthday as Jun 1854. and her age as 45.

In the 1910 US Census she is 58, married with 7 children (6 alive) living in Elmira, Stark, Illinois - born 1852.

So far I have not located either travel documents or death certificate for Mary A Forbes (nee McKeever) but I will continue to look but without the birth info you placed online I was not able to connect her to this family. Thank You.
