Antrim / Re: John McCOY s of Robert birth in ?Ballinderry
« on: Saturday 08 January 22 02:03 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all
I know this is an old post but I hope some of you might read my question? I believe that there is a connection between the Robert McCoy who is the Father of the Robert McCoy mentioned in your post and my John McCoy (my Great great Grandfather)who immigrated to Canada 1838. I speculate they could be brothers. My John McCoy was born abt 1764. I was hoping that someone had more information on the extended family of Robert McCoy. Trees I have seen have three generations of Robert McCoy but no brothers mentioned for them? I have tried a number of sites but have not found a source for the information on this family? Hoping some one might be able to help me. Possibly church records or some other source?
Cheers
Ron McCoy

Canada / Re: DR. Louise Prosper Bender - Quebec City

Thank you very much!! I appreciate all the help and leads.
There is lots of information available about Prosper Jr as he seemed to be a very political and outspoken individual at the time, as well as a very successful medical carrier. I was just surprised to see him referenced as serving in the Union army as well. I guess the only way to see those records would be to go the national archives, perhaps something to put on my bucket list someday.

It's really Henry that i am chasing as my family is his direct descendants. I did know a brother came with him but as you said after being married and having their first child they moved onto the Toronto area. I'm very curious as to why the two older brothers would leave this prominent family and never speak of them again, I can only assume it has to do with the passing of their father and what appears to be their domineering older brother.

It's a family rumor that Henry was also going through medical school to become a dr at the time of his fathers death but i can't find records for him at Mcgill (unlike Prosper who's records are present and often referenced else where).

Canada / DR. Louise Prosper Bender - Quebec City
« on: Wednesday 17 February 16 19:58 GMT (UK)  »
Recently read an blurb (http://www.patrimoine-culturel.gouv.qc.ca/rpcq/detail.do?methode=consulter&id=16192&type=pge#.VsSiofkrLIV) referencing Dr. Louise Prosper Bender as having served in the Union Army in the American Civil War, was wondering if anyone had a resource to find these records or info?

Also wondering about finding resources of probated wills from around 1872?

I am researching James Francis Henry Bender(1848–1936), who is Dr. Bender's brother, but around the time of his fathers death in 1872 leaves his family in Quebec City and travels and later resides in Pembroke, On. Henry seems to come from a very prominent and well off family in Quebec City to live a very simple and often difficult time in the Ottawa Valley.

Sligo / McHale, James, looking for birth/marriage/immigration records.
« on: Saturday 18 July 15 01:10 BST (UK)  »
I've been tracing James McHale (born around 1833 in Sligo, married to Mary (also from Ireland?), Father to Michael Laurance McHale) in my family tree. But having trouble finding any records before he immigrates to Canada (around 1850?). Can find him in Canadian Census in 1852/61/81/91 in Carlton/Fitzoy Ottawa Ontario, but anything prior to 1852 is escaping me. I can only assume that is around the time he immigrated and i never have any luck finding Irish records. Is anyone out there that is better at these kind of things able to find this gentleman and his wife or their families or point me in the right direction.
Thank you very much in advance.

« on: Saturday 31 January 15 05:34 GMT (UK)  »
Having trouble finding census records for George Riley born 1809 in Cork. Son of William and Catherine. He would immigrate to Canada in 1830 and soon after marry Elizabeth Higginson in Pakenham Ontario. Looking for a census of the family (believed to have a brother), birth and immigration records before coming to canada. Thanks in advance.

Yes thats right, thank you.

There was just a lot of similarities. The first family in Islington is the one i am trying to trace backwards (Rosie, who is crossed out of the 1911 census is my ggrandmother i believe) but cant find them past the 1891 census.
