Canada Lookup Request / Re: McLernon Immigration
« on: Sunday 09 April 06 21:36 BST (UK)  »
Hello KarenM:

Thanks for your response KarenM. Both of them went to the U.S. as I have found later records of this. But I have not been able to find anything prior to 1866 after the end of the Civil War. The 1900 and 1910 Censuses have W.J. McLernon immigrating in '58 or 1864 so I am pretty sure they entered the U.S. before or during the war.

Thanks

I am looking for George McLernon(born 1844) and William J. McLernon(Born 1840) probably travelling together from Ireland. They arrived in the U.S. in 1858 to 1864.(ie before or during the civil war)

Any help will be appreciated!

I am trying to find a record of my great grand father to the U.S. in 1859. I have checked lists of Ancestry.com, Castle Gardens, Ellis Island, ISTG(6Volumes) and LDS without success. Is there any other lists available on-line or indices that I could check??

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Shellsbells:

I had the same problem and I finally got copies of The Petition and the Declaration I needed. I got them from

NARA
Northeast Region
201 Varick Street
New York, New York
10014-4811

Scott A. Jobson
Archive Technician

I provided them with the applicable court name and County, Bundle Number and Record or Copy Number.        ( Later records like the ones you seek may be organized differently and require different info to locate)

The bundle and record numbers I found online at Ancestry.com.

United States of America / U.S. Petitions for Naturalization/Minors Interpretation
« on: Wednesday 01 March 06 22:31 GMT (UK)  »
If the Petition form is for a 'Minor' and is printed as such, does that mean the applicant is a minor when he/she immigrated or does it mean he/she is a minor at the time of application of the Petition? I suspect the former rather than the latter based on two petitions I have. Can anyone confirm how to interpret the form?

Thanks

Well, I tried the website that runner suggested and for six GBP I was able to check parochial records back to the 1500's on line, WOW! I found a John McLaren of the correct age in birth records at Falkirk. Whether it's him or not there is no way of knowing. But I do know that McLernon has allot of spelling variations one of which could be McLaren. Thanks for the help folks, this looks like the end of the trail!!
