Hi Ivys maiden was always known as Roberts . After she died we found a picture of her wedding from a newspaper. It was written as Ivy Roberts formerly known as Clewes. We had never seen the Clewes name till then. Unfortunately this only came to light after her death, so we couldnt ask her about this.
We then looked up her birth certificate and got just her mothers name as Harriet Clewes. Does this help anyone ??  thanks jennie

Hi sorry I obviously cant explain myself.   I will try and explain,
My mother in law was known as Ivy Clewes born 1919 in Wolstanton. She was adopted by a family Likely.    We didnt know why she had the maiden name of Roberts.
Ivy's mother was on the birth certificate. Hannah Clewes, no father..
I have seen the entry for a Harriet Rebecca Roberts Clewes. I wondered if this was a red herring and there is no connection..
Hope this explains a bit   thanks jennie

Hi I must apologise as I put Hannah as our relative. I think it was Harriet middle name.
I dont know how much info to give so hope this is not too much.
The info on the family that  I know is  correct is Ivy Clewes b1919. Her Mother is Harriet Clewes born 1891. Possible mother of Harriet is Sarah Ann (Sutton). They came from Bond st Wolstanton/Tunstall.
I would love any further info on this line.
Now  we visited France on holiday and discovered 2 soldiers both from  Wolstanton. They both died in the conflict.  We wondered if they are related
1  William Clewes Grenadier Guards  8151        2  William Clive Clewes  Cheshire Reg. 70101 Any help would be appreciated  frannygran
