Hi I found this interesting as my grandmother gave birth to my uncle Bill in 1923 in  rural Lincolnshire (he was illegitimate) he was always made to stand outside when ever my grandmother visited anyone's house in the area!!?? People in the area had the view it would bring bad luck to there doorstep she was not welcome to visit at all when he was a baby!!?? Even when she married in 1927 no one would let my Uncle in there house for fear they might end up with someone pregnant and not married!!?... My Uncle always lived a life angry at not being good enough!!?? but the good thing is he and his first wife fostered around 50 children but he never had any of his own Carolyn xx

Hi Bob Roberts (SHOTLEY50)
I am very interested in your entry regarding an Ada Roberts who was your great aunt!!??... I'm not totally sure if there is any connection here or not!! but a Ada Roberts born around 1877 may have come over to Boston in Lincolnshire to have her baby!!??(there is a record of a Ada Elisabeth Roberts on our 1901 census) in 1900 gave birth to my grandfather John George Roberts (illegitamate) in Boston Union Workhouse....She entered the workhouse in the archive records over here in Lincolnshire on August 3rd she gave birth to my grandfather on 25th August 1900 and then left the workhouse on the 3rd of Oct 1900 my grandfather was nearly a year to be properly registered as born or given a name!!?..  My grandfather was handed over to be cared for between 1902 and 1908 to a Robert Robinson and his wife Kate probably for a fee!? this would of been decided  by a board of governers for his own best interests if the mother was unable to care for him or emigrated!!?? I have searched constantly for any record of a death for Ada or perhaps being placed in a mental asylum or a marraige here!!?? but can not find anything!!?? My father has said he remembers my grandfather saying she went on a ship but could not take him with her!!?? So from then on he was brought up with the Robinsons and only used the name Roberts when he got married or enlisted in the navy in the 2 world wars...   The only thing I have of her is my maiden name of Roberts as my name was Carolyn Roberts.. I'm just wondering could you give me anymore information on the Ada Elisabeth Roberts who was your great aunt? Also lastly Ada was a Primitive Methodist which was a non comformist religion here thank you Carolyn
