Groton & Dedhan Clans. In archive.org, the relevant family history books written in about 1870s can be found and downloaded.
Take great care when using the written documentation. They have both used some of the same source material from somebody who wrote another book about the Averys ( named "Sweet" - need to check that name in the books ). Also there are a number of inaccuracies, which modern research can identify - Too many assumptions are made at times. Unfortunately I keep coming across these inaccuracies being perpetuated in family research commentaries from North America. Many of the inaccuracies are related to Geography and Demographics. As a Brit who only lives 20 minutes from The National archives, in London - The commentaries are like describing New York being only a short drive from Los Angeles.

Groton - branch descended from Matthew ? Avery from Ipplepen Devon.
Dedham Branch - descended from William Avery, Blacksmith of Barkham, Berkshire.
The families are not linked. My side of family are from Yatton Somerset - and possibly leads to Dedham Lineage.
I have visited Groton. Look up battle of fort Griswold ( or Groton Heights) during revolutionary war.

Museum in Dedham where there is a copy of Avery coat of Arms. This is the same coat of Arms described in the visitations of Somerset for Jacob Avery. And another later visitation o f Middlesex for his son Samuel Avery MP who owned Capel Manor Enfield.

Have fun following up on some of my notes. These have just been written off the top of my head without accessing my research notes -

Somerset Lookup Requests / Re: James AVERY 1836 Lyng baptism
« on: Sunday 19 October 14 12:02 BST (UK)  »
I had issues with the "Lyng" baptism. Had to synthise district, sub-district details from the census images to work out what was going on.

James Avery & Mary Anna Bartlett had 10 children.
Martha (b.1862), Frderick (b.1863), Earnest (b. 1866), Eva (b.1868), James (1870), Alice (b.1872),
Lily (b.1876), Thomas (b1876), Edgar (b.1877), Florence (b.1879)

The family were all born in Newport.

My grandfather was Thomas John (TJ) who lived at 56 Mendelgief Rd. from about 1911 - 1958.
My father was an executor of the estate. He was cremated at Cardiff crematorium.
TJ was a twin.
TJ married Clare Jane Attewell.
What is of interest is that she was something like 3rd cousin to my uncle Graham Attewell who my mothers sister married.
The Attewell family are farmers , farming near Magor and my cousin farming on the Nash levels.

TJ & Clare Jane had 9 children.
he last of these children died in Australia in 2013 aged 102. She and er husband retired there o be with there son. Her husband had been a chief fire officer in Newport.

I was born at St. Woolos hospital . My brother born at Lydia Beynon

Somerset / Re: AVERY's from YATTON

I am researching Avery's of Yatton.
Samuel George Avery's father if my family search is correct was my great-great-great grandfather William. I have the information that I believe Williams wife was Sarah Stallard who came from Yatton and possibly married at Westbury-on-Trym , but I  cannot identify his birth to be able to reach back 1 more lineage

The number of children produced in the 4 generations I have identified is quite extroadinary
William (  Samuel and William Morris  father) 10 children 3 died early
William Morris ( James son) 9 children
James ( Thomas John, youngest son) 10 children
Thomas John ( d. 1958) ( Kenneth George, son) 9 children
Kenneth George 4 children

my personal goal is to identify whether the lineage links to the Dedham Ma Avery Clan , or Groton, CT. Avery Clan of USA

The James Avery & Mary Anna Bartlett , if I am correct in my research are my great  grandparrents.
He was a carpenter ( like his father), became a wheelwright. Moved to Newport probably via the steamer that ran between Newport & Weston-super-Mare. Started a carriage works. Its location mentioned in Kellys guide 1901 (I think). He was in newport at its peak as a coal shipping port when carts required to move the coal to the ships. He bought a house for each of his 10 children.
James Avery's life can practically followed through the census records . Unfortunately he died in 1908.
James was born in Yatton, which is a sub district of Congresbury near where Bristol Airport is located.
I am trying to follow James' lineage back to see if there is a line to the famous Avery Clans of Dedham, Ma. and/or Groton, Ct. Avery  Clans of USA.

I am stuck at William Avery born about 1860s ish. I do not think he came from Yatton but his wife Sarah did.

The Weston-super-mare FHS have created many detailed transcripts from the Parish records of the area. They keep these on line for members information.

Sorry about rabbiting
