Sorry Kevin, I haven't any information on Marjorie.  If you or your mom remember or come upon any facts about your family that you'd like to share, I'm only too happy to include them in my Ancestry tree.  This helps us both in our search for family information.  Lorraine

Kevin, the only Foster I have connected to your Holden family so far is Gerald Louis "Jerry" Foster, 1925-1984, who married the daughter of Lester Arnold Holden, 1906-1950.  Can't say whether he was ever a mayor of Frankford.  Lorraine

George William Holden, 1853-1915.  Lavinia is my great aunt.  Their children:  Pearl Irene 1900-1984, John William 1904-1904, Lester Arnold 1906-1950, Mary Ethel 1907-1907, Florence 1908-2011, and Marjorie 1914-? would be my 1st cousins 1x removed.  I'm happy to share any information with you.  Lorraine

CaroleW-One piece of information, which may be related to this James Stackhouse, is an arrival in Philadelphia, 28 Nov 1887, on the Indiana of someone by his name at 26 yrs. of age.  I believe this person traveled alone.

CaroleW-Thought I might mention that James worked on the dairy farm for the Watson family, and it was their daughter Mary Elizabeth whom he married.  That is reflected in the census you refer to where he is shown as a "servant" and Mary is shown as daughter of head of house and a dairy maid.

Thank you CaroleW.  Yes, James did remarry, possibly outside the UK.  Family lore is that he travelled first to Pennsylvania, USA and later into Canada. He died 11 Dec 1932 in Fort Erie, Welland County, Ontario, Canada.  His second wife survived him.

Cumberland / What became of Mary Elizabeth Watson, Mansriggs Hall, Lancashire?

Seeking information on Mary Elizabeth Watson (born abt 1860) Mansriggs Hall, Lancashire, England, daughter of John Watson (b 1823) and Mary Oxley (b 1824).  Have traced her marriage to my great grandfather, James Stackhouse (b 1861) in Ulverston, 10 Sep 1882, and the birth of my grandfather John James Stackhouse, (b 1884) Dalton in Furness.  She disappears without a trace and I find my grandfather is raised by his paternal grandmother Agnes (Boardley) Stackhouse (b. 1834) from a very early age.

The Ulverston News, Saturday, 29 Sept 1883, carries a story about a Mrs. Stackhouse who was run over on New Market Street in Ulverstone, receiving many injuries about her body and thorax. A doctor Cockburn was in attendance and she was conveyed home in a vehicle from the Sun Hotel.  Could this Mrs. Stackhouse be my great grandmother Mary Elizabeth?  My grandfather was not born until June of 1884, which would mean if this is her, that she had conceived prior to the accident.

Would like to know what happened to Mary Elizabeth that she did not raise her child.  When did she die?  Is she the Mrs. Stackhouse in the Ulverston News article?  Any help would be so appreciated.  Lorraine

Family History Beginners Board / Re: Mystery of two Anne Statters b. 1850
« on: Sunday 21 December 14 22:42 GMT (UK)  »
To those who have helped guide me, thank you.  I've now received a copy of the birth record for Ann Statters, born in Drigg, 1850, and found that Elizabeth Statters, sister to John and Braithwaite Statters, is indeed her mother. We're about to rewrite the family tree!

Now, can you wonderful sleuths help me to find out more about Elizabeth?  All I know is that she was born abt 1817, in Drigg, Cumberland to parents John Statters and Ann Braithwaite.  Apparently she was a single mother at 32 yrs., which likely means that she never married.  I would like to know if she had any other children.  How long did she live, and where?  And, where is she buried?  Anything you can give me would be appreciated.  Thank you.  Happy Holidays to you and yours.
