Thanks Roots chatters, you have done the job, your replies have furnished me with the information to pin point the houses and a piece of land adjoining that was worked as part of a farm. Regards to you all, Oly.

Staffordshire Lookup Requests / Lindleys Buildings, Hednesford area
« on: Sunday 06 February 22 15:01 GMT (UK)  »
The 1901 and 1911 census have Lindley Buildings as an area (Hamlet) in the Ecclesiastical District of Hednesford.
I have perused many maps of that period but not found a mention of them. My children's maternal grandmother lived in a cottage, Lindleys Buildings. They come between The waterworks and West Cannock Cottages on the 1901 enumerators list. I also have a copy of an inquest in the 1926 Local Courier that mentions Lindley Buildings. Thank you in anticipation.  Help, a 92 year Yorkshire young un,
  oly

Yorkshire (North Riding) / Re: Whitby - Wm. Bennison descendants
« on: Saturday 09 April 16 16:04 BST (UK)  »
My records show a George Benison the fifth child of Thomas and Catherine Benison in the Parish of Bentham - West Riding of Yorkshire. Thomas was the curate of Melling his son George is also officiating at a marriage service in 1784-5. This is the only George I can find in my records of the WR of Yorkshire in the 1700's. The Benisons are in this area back to the 1600's.

Children of Thomas and Catherine were John 1743, Elizabeth 1746, Catherine 1748, James 1750, George 1755, Catherine again 1757, Mary 1760, Then Jane daughter of Revd Mr Benson 24th May 1763.
If you are looking at someone born in 1750 what dates are your revolution, I am thinking 1775 to 1783 which does not quite fit with the George above, possible I suppose, if he went to America with the British army ??? , we had a militia system a bit like conscription we were a troublesome lot what with France and Africa etc.. My 3 times gr grandfather was a driver of cattle if called, apparently they took their food on the hoof, he was called on once and went to York driving a herd, to the assembly point, where they were told it was a false alarm, a burning haystack was thought to have been a call to arms, signal beacon.

Thanks Matthew, that does help, he is 197442  L/C Gordon Oliver RE on the medical sheet with  a honorary 2nd Lte on demob statement, so this ties your two references to the same Gordon, so now I know his full home address.
Thank you JM  and Matthew for the interpretation of the initials, it all fits now.
His School leaving certificate gives him a place at Sheffield University but he enlists and has a term of basic training as a Cadet and then attends his university still as a cadet after which he is placed in the RE, do not know why he went into hospital but the flu epidemic had started at this time. Thanks again for the replies.
