Thank you for the very prompt suggestions. Some quick responses : Their parents were Thomas and Honor (Ridler) Rawle..I have found no reference in the 1861 census to either sister...Passport applications were made in the names of Alice Rawle and Frances Latham (Lathem) July and October 1861..Fanny's daughter, Martha Latham eventually married James Hobbs in 1873, lived in Bristol and had 8 children including my grandmother.
Will follow up some of your ideas tomorrow.

Hello
Frances (Fanny) and Alice RAWLE were sisters born 1830 and 1835 respectively in Cutcombe, Somerset. Frances married William Latham, had a daughter Martha and was widowed in the space of a year! She gave up her daughter and moved to Llantwit Farde, Glamorgan where in the 1851 census aged 22 she is a cook and domestic servant. Her sister is living nearby. After this the picture is unclear! No evidence of remarriage, death etc for either..only two applications for passports made in 1861 presumably to emigrate. I have failed to find anything..Australia, United States...wherever. I realise this is a big ask but any help would be appreciated as Frances was my GGGrandmother.
Thank you
