Hampshire & IOW Completed Lookup Requests / Re: William Lawrence of Michelmersh

Thank you for your offer of assistance.  I haven't worked on that line for a while, but I now have the Kings Somborne CDs with transcriptions of the parish records.  The Lawrences are related.  Henry's father had 4 wives and numerous children.  Henry is a half brother to my direct-line ancestor James Lawrence.

I'm off this weekend to a genealogy conference, but will follow-up with you when I return.  Are you related to the Lawrences or the Gaigers?

Thanks for contacting me.  I haven't been on the board for a long time.  I do have the cds you mentioned.  They are a treasure.  You and I have a common ancestor in Charles Lawrence and Amelia (Millie) Guyat.  I am related to James Lawrence, their first child.  You apparently come through William (the 2nd Wm.)

Did Miriam end up in Dickinson County (or Geary County) during the homestead era in Kansas?  I visited there in July 2008 and had a wonderful time riding around the back roads with another "cousin" who grew up in the area.  We visited cemeteries and saw the old homesteads.  Thomas, James' son ended up there, as well as several relatives from Alderbury, Wiltshire, England related to his wife Eliza Haines.  Thomas' son John Lawrence came to Los Angeles after 1910.  As far as I know we all stayed out in So. California somewhere.

We are probably related somewhere down the line--most likely as cousins.  There was no Isaac on the list of children from "my" Thomas.  The research on this line beyond my g-grandparents was done by someone years ago, before the internet.  As the earlier poster indicated it is somewhat suspect (though not necessarily incorrect) because it is not sourced.  I thought it would be an easy job to look through the parish records for the area and verify and source the info, but I couldn't find any of the family there and now need to check neighboring parish records.  My time was limited during my last foray into the microfilms, and I need to tackle it again.

Have you looked at parish records at an LDS Family History Library?  You can check the online catalog at familysearch.org and then order films from a local library to view for a few weeks on loan.  Good luck.

Thank you Nell.  I didn't realize that there were multiple transcripts out there.  There appear to be some gaps in the genuki one and there are probably near illegible entries in the original.  I will try and check the microfilm of the original parish register.  It took 3.5 months for the last microfilm order I placed so I was looking for a quicker answer to my question.  I should know by now...patience, patience when it comes to genealogy!

One more idea of how to check on name of last daughter? born in 1797.  There are 2 Lawrence brides listed in Michelmersh about the right time for Rebecca and P?
Larrence         Collence         15 Oct 1820
Lawrence        Alexander        15 Oct 1816

Does anyone have access to the marriage registers OR could someone check on the 1841 census for Michelmersh for Collence (Collins) or Alexander families and see the first names?  Thanks.

Thank you so much.  The entry for "P dau" 10 Jun 1797 could be Phoebe.  Another researcher suggested that, but I don't find a burial for the first Phebe.  I appreciate the clarification on the George entries.  Thank you for your time and sharing your resources.  --Leslie

Sorry to be so slow, but I just realized that Michelmersh baptisms were indexed on the internet at genuki.org.uk...  What I don't see is any parents' names on the index.  Does anyone on this board have access to the parish records (or transcripts) that would show the parents of the children baptised?  I'm looking specifically for:
Laurance George              05 Mar 1791
Laurence Phebe              14 Jan 1787
Laurence Anne              17 May 1789
Laurence Benjamin              12 May 1793
Laurence William              23 Feb 1794
Laurence Rebecca              13 Jun 1795
Lawrence P?(dau)              10 Jun 1797

Also, there were 2 George Lawrence bap. close together.
Lawrence George              28 Aug 1836
Lawrence George              04 Dec 1836

Thank you both very much.  I didn't have all the children and their baptism dates.  I've been assuming that Jane married Wm. Whitlock in 1843.  In that case she would be Lockerly, Hants during the 1851 census with son, James.  Valda--did you find a baptism for Wm. Lawrence, the father, in the 1790s in Michelmersh?  I've been wondering about his family and the possible connection to Lawrences in Romsey in the 1760s.

Sorry about that omission.  She was born 1799.
