Durham / Burial Record
« on: Monday 23 October 17 14:50 BST (UK)  »
Hello could anyone offer any advice on the following please:

-am trying to help a lady in Canda find out where her aunt is buried.

The person in question is an ETHEL M. DEAN died aged 17 in 1937 - entry of death indicates records are for 'Auckland' (UK).

Ethel was a ward of St Mary's Home for girls in Tudhoe, County Durham and died of rheumtic fever in a hospital (presumably/possibly nearby). She may of course have left the home at the age of 17 (but some girls did continue in it's employ once they were of leaving age).

Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanking you in advance. Carol Masip

All is clear now - apologies for the confusion.

Would William's age in the original document be 31 (he was born 1880) by any chance?

Don't forget NC has been written by the enumerator - plus Norfolk County - Northumberland would not make sense in any case

Thanks again - the William Eke we are looking for was born in CORPUSTY, Norfolk in 1880 (married Elizabeth Brown in 1905, County Durham).

We try to view the original census return - seems the William Eke in the 1911 census was not our man. :-[

Thank you - it is indeed the William EKE from Norfolk that we are trying to trace.

Married first in 1905 then again in 1921. First wifed died in 1908 and he was living 10 minutes from the place a William Eke is found in the 1911 census

We are trying to fill in gaps for his whereabouts 1908 - 1912 (1912 turns up near Dover).

Hello, could anyone please advise if they know what NC stands for in a census return?

This is in a 1911 census for a William EKE living in Chopwell, Winlaton, County Durham.

The column for place of birth records N C Northumberland (don't believe this stands for Newcastle as this is written in full elsewhere).

Many thanks for any ideas - Carol

Thank you - no father's name, he was illegitimate, along with his 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Mother's name Hannah Eke (born in Barningham Parva now called Little Barningham, Norfolk). He gave his brother's name (Matthew) as his fictitious father's name at his second marriage. When Matthew married he gave another brother's name (Richard) as his fictitious father. May have signed up as Watling (thank you we knew of the step-father) - will check this was explored.

Thank you 'garstonite' - but the 1872 William Eke is not our man - details of 1880 birth received from William's grandson.
