Yes I have my test up on Ancestry linked to my tree. Managed to find a match on Jarvis descendents in the USA

Jarvis Lane has a farm (it has guest cottages) once owned by the Jarvis family. I stayed there many years ago. It's still owned by relatives, but from memory they are descendents of the family that married the Jarvis ancestor

Sorry to resurrect an old thread. Harriet was married to a 4 x gt granduncle of mine (George West Jarvis). If you don't mind me asking, what's your relationship to her?

Kent / Tinkler/Gable family
« on: Thursday 13 July 23 21:00 BST (UK)  »
Bit of a random one but I hope someone might be able to help.

Ancestry DNA is matching me to lots of people (paternal matches) with links to this family. It looks like my gt gt gt grandparents are James Tinkler (1830 - 1876), and Emma Gable (1837 - 1914)

However this is where it gets messy. I have zero connections to them which raises the question as to whether my father is my father (a very real possibility), or whether his parentage is in question (all his brothers sisters, and parents are deceased so no way to check)

I have an extensive tree for his side of the family but not a single DNA match to anyone related to anyone on the tree

I don't suppose anyone on here has links to the Tinkler or Gable line who knows of any links to South Wales?

Thanks in advance

Ah typical. Thank you all. Trying to do this in work and making beginners errors. Will look at this with fresh eyes tomorrow and see where I went wrong. I used to be good at this tree malarky  :-[

The Common Room / Re: AncestryProGenealogists

I spent 15 years trying to find my great great grandfather - with the release of the 1939 register, I am 99.9% confident that I have located him. Very common name, left South Wales and ended up in London. The single family story I was told by a distant relative has proven correct (however improbable it sounded). I am very doubtful that a professional genealogist could have located him prior to this as the only thing I had to go on was that he died in London and was buried in a paupers grave. William John Hughes from South Wales just didn't want to be found!!!!

I've spent the last few weeks writing and e-mailing random people in the hope that they are his children from his second marriage (no luck yet, but I am hopeful).

Once I confirm him, it's just his errant father that I need to find. I have a 20 year period to cover, another common name, and no idea where he died!!!

Luckily, people on here are fantastic. The service this site provides is worth so much more than any service you could pay for. I've found cousins on here simply because I've put a relatives name in the thread and they've googled the name at a later date.

It was brilliant - my cousin worked for a firm of solicitors that I used through work. I recognised her name, but couldn't place it.......until I looked at her firm's mousemat sat on my desk  :o :o :o :o

Essex Lookup Requests / O Mitchell - any chance someone could find an obituary??
« on: Tuesday 23 October 18 14:56 BST (UK)  »
Hi guys, a bit far (geographically) for me, but would anyone be able to try and locate an obituary for me? I'll be honest, I don't have a huge amount of info though.

The name is O Mitchell, born in 1930's in Greenwich. I think her husband is still alive, so I won't post his name just in case. I have traced the home address to Romford, and she drops off the electoral role in 2013-2015. The husband is still there until 2018 according to 192.com.

I'm not 100% it's my O, but it's an unusual name for your neck of the woods - the man she is listed at the property with has the same middle initial as the person on the marriage in 1982 in Havering

I assume she has died around 2014, but I don't have any subscriptions to check deaths (assuming they're available at this time anyway).

Thank you for your time guys

Thank you Rosie. Ordered the death cert now so will see where I go from there

Yep, more money! Gutted about that. Normally quite reserved when following lines, but went a bit mad this time
