« on: Tuesday 28 January 20 03:18 GMT (UK) »
Hello
My Father was registered to take the trip to Canada on the SS City of Benares, sailing from Glasgow to Canada on Friday, 13th Sept, 1940. The ship was torpedoed and sunk on September 17th 1940, 83 children drowned.
Fortunately, my Dad became seriously ill with diptheria and could not travel.
The diptheria saved his life, as he recovered and lived to nearly 93yo!
**Note - interesting departure date, Friday the 13th !!!
