Only just read your post, so hope you receive this reply. The David Gilchrist you are enquiring about is my ancestor.  I think we were researching the Gilchrist/Silgram name together many years ago.  However, until I saw your query I had reached a brick wall and despaired of ever being able to trace his marriage, Sarah's maiden name or where he may have been born.  Although I have a number of theories, and have researched all the families of Gilchrists (and name variants) living in Cheshire, I have not been able to confirm any connection to them.
