Australia Lookups completed / Re: SA? Death lookup please -WHITTENBURY

Hi Lillygirl
Reading this thread I found fascinating.
Are you related To Benjamin?
I am bored so started doing other Whittenbury trees so one day I will find the link in about 1760-1790. They all seem to block that date.
Another reason I am interested in Benjamin is in the 1840s they lived in Lee in Lewisham where 3 more of their babies are buried, my line lived in Lewisham the same time. :)

Hi Den,
This is sure a blast from the past! Would you believe I was at state records office back in 2009 and overheard someone mention researching the name Whittenbury. I'd been talking to a friend the day before who had been researching that surname so of course introduced myself and got chatting! Turns out they were from interstate and couldn't believe the connection! I connected them to my friend and they shared lots of info.
So no I'm not related was just helping out at the time.
Happy to put you in touch with my friend who has Whittenbury relations/research etc. in South Australia tho if you think there may be a connection?
Kind regards,
from Adelaide, South Australia

I was recently shown a leather passport holder with the name Walter Orrell Clegg embossed on the cover. The gentleman travelled from London to Paris from 1855 to 1858. I Googled the name Walter Orrell Clegg, and found a naturalization form filed by him in New York City in 1865. At the time, he lived at 296 Madison Street (not Madison Avenue) in Manhattan.Hope you find this information of interest - Best Wishes, John

Hi John,
How fascinating have just seen this post. Thanks so much for sharing.   Interested to know where were you shown the passport holder, who it belonged to and how it came about? Small world eh!

Yes thankyou so  much Rena.

It's VERY very exciting. I really can't believe it.

I'll have to find out more about Ancestry by the sounds to see if I can view the certificate that was mentioned, it's all new to me so don't have much idea.

Hi Rena, (and others)
The surname looks vaguely like Lorenz but I wouldn't put my hat on it.

Yes it sure is so you're hat is safe! lol.

It's sure hard to make some of it out isn't it?

Thanks, particularly interested in the place names and anything anyone else can add.

Thanks I messaged mod to see if I should/how to move the post when I found there was a board specifically for deciphering handwriting but didn't know how to do it myself - didn't think of linking the post.
