World War Two / WW2 Naval Service Record query
« on: Thursday 13 February 14 22:13 GMT (UK)  »
I have a WW2 Royal Navy Service record that lists variety of vessels and the dates served. However, some of the entries contain brackets ie. Clio (Derwent), Nile (Derwent) and Calliope (Launceston Castle) etc.
Can somebody please explain the reason for the brackets ?

Many thanks,

Lincolnshire / Re: William Selby b. abt 1844 Lincolnshire

Having re-read what has been posted, it would seem that I have two scenarios. The earlier baptism fits the earlier census (1841 & 1851) whilst the later baptism fits the later census( 1891 - 1911). Although the earlier baptism/census provide me with Mother & Grandparents, I think the anomalies in age and area prevent me from using the information with any certainty.
I shall put it on file in case of any future info., so very many thanks for the assistance,

Mike W

1891/1901/1911 all give pob as North Kelsey, although most of them have errors in the transcription.

That last Baptism seems relevant, 'base born' and North Kelsey seem to fit with your 1871 suggestion (HO107/2117/124/4) and your 1841 Messingham (not far from Kelsey). The only fly in the ointment is the age in both cases (10 & 1). Your other baptism at West Halton agrees with age but not area !
This is very frustrating as it seems that tying up all the facts is close but not close enough !!
Have you any suggestions to what combination, if any, fit ?

Sorry, I missed that, they certainly seem to fit with the baptism etc.
Unfortunately, this data doesn't seem to fit the later census data on William ie. 1881 - 1911 gives his birth abt 1844 at North Kelsey, Lincs. (or similar) and his children fit the other information I have ?
What do you think ?

Many thanks for all your reponses.
The one from Gaffy looks a fair bet as it fits the father's details. Will also pursue the Belfast burial records.
This Ireland Genealogy is not easy, especially after getting use to FreeBMD for England & Wales !
Will keep plodding !!

Antrim / Edward Augustus AGNEW, b. 1892 Belfast
« on: Thursday 17 January 13 23:43 GMT (UK)  »
Obliged if anyone can provide the spouse details of Edward Augustus AGNEW b. abt 1892 Belfast. They had a son (only child) also Edward Augustus b. 1918 Belfast. The father of the elder Edward was John AGNEW b. abt 1864 Belfast.

Many thanks,

Thanks for all the replies, but I'm more confused now !
lzdb:
I can only find one possible in 1851 viz. HO107 2117 30 18, living with Uncle Joseph King. Can you please give me the other possibles.
Geoff-E:
That is a coincidence as I came across a baptism for William Thompson Selby, 5 Jul 1843, mother Martha -will look back as I seem to have lost that link, maybe FamilySearch so ???!
Overall I think the advice of the Marriage Certificate is the next step, to establish both the father's name (hopefully) and his status (s or wid.)

Thanks again for the help,
Mike W
