This came from a box of tintypes from a relative who has since passed away. The people I have identified have all been from central Illinois. Any help (date of photo, his age) would be appreciated.

Not the greatest resolution, I know, but the original is in a box in a storage unit 300 miles away from its 85-year-old owner; this may be the best I get. I have not enhanced it in any way other than to crop it.

If I could get some help on guessing the age of these folks - and the time period, especially from that distinctive dress on the young mother - I think I can pin down who they were. I have lots of data on the ancestors of the owner of the photo.

Is it significant that I can see a sliver of the dress on the left side of the image?

Thank you for your help.

Thank you everyone for your help. I think it's reasonable to say that my photo certainly could be Elizabeth Tilford Gilmer (1784-1865), with as much certainty as can be attained (unless someone finds this photo in their basement years from now, and a reverse image search leads them here).

I really wish whoever bought this bible would open it up, Google some names on the births/deaths/marriages pages, and find my personal website! I'd love to buy it and pry apart the pages and see if these photos have names on the backs (and get better scans)!

Given the time period you all are describing, would it be a reasonable conclusion to say that she could be the sister of this man? I know who he was, his photo was labeled - Jimmy Tilford, 1791-1860. Thinking she might be his sister Elizabeth (1784-1865), since Elizabeth was the grandmother of the fellow who owned the bible.

Would appreciate any help with discovering who this lady was. I have a lot of information on the ancestors of the person who owned the bible this came from, but not the bible itself - so this is the best quality photo I have.

Any insight as to her age and the year of the photo - or any other details you can see - is appreciated.

This photo was sent to me by a relative who didn't want to take it out of the album to be scanned. I THINK it was a tintype. I do not have it physically nor did I ever see it in person. I have chosen to not enhance it here - I figure you all probably have better tools for that.

I can tell you it was from a family in central Illinois, and the other photos in the album were all from around 1865-1885 or so. I'm hoping someone can clue me in to the man's age, the time period, and any other clues to his identity - including that masonic-looking emblem on what appears to be one of many layers of clothing under his chin.

Photo was found in an album in central Illinois. At least one photo in album was of a relative in Kansas. No idea who they might be but have data on while family, so any help with ages, date if photo, and any other identifying data would be appreciated. Thank you!

Any ideas on age and year taken, so I can pin down who she is? It's a small family.

Sadly no I can't. The bible was brought into a resale shop in 2011 by an unknown person and sold to another unknown person the next day. However, the owner of the shop, a genealogist herself, saw the photos and took pictures of them and the births/deaths/marriages pages, and googled the names on those until she found me. So these are all I have.
