Berkshire / Re: HEADING family - Wantage & Oxford

Hello Aillin,

Did you manage to have your questions above answered?

Thanks, Kirst

Thanks Kirst. Yes, I have since confirmed that the family from Wantage were my family. I even have a DNA match with a descendant of Elizabeth Heading's sister which also helped to prove this was the right family  :)

lanarman  the townland you are looking for may be Dernaroy/Derrynaroy which is Aghadavoyle townland in Killevy Civil Parish, Armagh.
My Breen and Finegan ancestors came from there (please see my blog http://ausgenjourneys.blogspot.com.au/2011/02/those-places-thursday-aghadavoyle.html)
I hope this helps  :)

Kildare / Naas Gaol, Prisoner for Tithe Arrears 1838
« on: Tuesday 11 May 10 11:58 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I have found a reference to a 75-year-old man, a publican and farmer, Peter Folliard, of Naas, who was arrested for Tithe arrears in 1838. He was kept at the Naas Gaol.

I have a couple of questions with which I hope other RootsChat members may be able to help me.

Were records kept about prisoners at Naas Gaol in 1838? If so, do they still exist and where can they be viewed?

Would useful records exist about publicans? and of insolvencies?

It is known that Peter Folliard's arrest was mentioned in the Freeman's Journal and before that the Register. Were there any local newspapers that may have dealt with issues in Naas in 1838?

Also, I'd love to contact anyone researching Folliard/Follard/Fullard etc. in Kildare, Dublin or Meath.

Thanks,
Aillin

Kildare / Re: Fullard/Folliard/Fuller/Fullerton and variations, 1800s

Some further details:

In Australia my ancestors went by the name FULLERTON but I may have found their marriage in Clane in 1839 under the name FULLARD. FULLARDs in Clane also seem to go by the name FULLER. They came from Firmount townland.

There were FOLLIARDs in Naas, could they be the same family?  There seem to have been a few other families with this name in Dublin and Meath. A quick search on the Web shows that most FOLLIARDs in Ireland came from Connaught or Ulster. Does anyone have any ideas where this Kildare family may have originated? Could they have been FOLLIOTTs? Is the name FOLLIARD fairly rare in Leinster?
Anyone have any ideas of Books I could possibly check for information about the surname?  ???

Other possible connected surnames: DUNNE, CAIN, CARROLL, DOWD, REILLEY, FITZGERALD, LOSTY

Any help would be most appreciated :)

Regards,
Aillin,

Thanks Christopher.

Since I posted my message I have had some success in my search for the Prestons. Joseph was a common room man at Worcester college, he has a portrait there apparently, and he is mentioned in a few books accessible through Google Books
e.g.
http://books.google.com/books?lr=&q=%22joe+preston%22+worcester
http://books.google.com/books?lr=&spell=1&q=%22joseph+preston%22+%22common+room%22

All very interesting :)

Is anyone researching any of these names in County Kildare, Ireland?

FULLARD, FOLLIARD, FULLER, FULLERTON and variations.

I'm particularly interested in the Clane and Naas areas.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Hi everyone,
Do I just need to know his date of death and place of death to apply for the Will? Or do I need a reference number? I guess If I don't need a reference number, then I already have the needed information? :)
Regards,
Aillin
