Name - Antonino Tubiolo (apparently his father was also named the same, not 100% confirmed)
Born - January 8, 1920 in Misilmeri Sicily

Any news (good or bad) is greatly appreciated! Thank you kindly Steve for any assistance you can provide.

The main thing would be how we would go about finding the record of his birth (with limited info) and then ordering the document.

Hiya again aghadowey! :D

Nah the grandfather is long gone unfortunately.

If her parents haven't claimed their own Italian citizenship, would they have to do that first. And then she would do it ?

Or could she directly claim it from him

Europe / Help with obtaining Italian Citizenship
« on: Sunday 14 February 16 13:20 GMT (UK)  »
Hello there! The lovely people on RootsChat helped me obtain the necessary documents and forms for me to get my British citizenship last summer, and I couldn't be more thankful!

A friend of mine is trying to obtain her Italian citizenship claiming it under her grandfather, but the information she has is limited.

His name is Anthony Tubiolo and was born in Palermo, Sicilia (Italy). She also got information that he may be from one of these communes - Villabate or Misilmeri.

She's trying to obtain a copy of his birth certificate but has no idea how to find the record (or how to order it) given the limited information.

The place of birth that I listed, she actually only recently found out from a relative that they never knew about until recently - "my aunt found him on Facebook... his dad is my grandfathers brother apparently and gave me that information".

She's an amazing person, with a huge heart and a passion for what she wants to do in life. If I'm able to help her find this document (with the help of someone on here of course) it would mean the world to me.  ;D

Thank you in advance for any potential help or leads you could provide. Thank you for reading through my post and I hope you all have a wonderful day!

-Paul

Haha yes, a distant cousin of mine said the same thing about how a renewal takes longer!

Just wanted to let anyone know that commented along my journey... I received my UK passport yesterday  ;D

They said it would take a minimum of 10 weeks after being received, but it took only 2-3.

So exciting. Thank you all!

Where you’re applying from
If you’re applying in the UK, the countersignatory must:
    live in the UK
have a current British or Irish passport

If you’re applying from outside the UK, they must have a current British, Irish or other EU, US or Commonwealth passport. But your application will be processed more quickly if they have a British or Irish passport.

When they hold a US, Commonwealth or other EU (not British or Irish) passport, they must provide a colour photocopy of the page with their photograph on it. This must be included with the countersigned application.

===========
However lower down on that page it states "The countersignatory must also provide their British or Irish passport number - HMPO may check their identity."

As the regulations allow for countersignatories NOT to have a British/Irish passport, provided they supply the colour photocopy as above, the bit lower down the page surely cannot apply in your case.

Very interesting and awesome!

The way it's worded.. I technically could get anyone in my family (apart from my half-sister) to be the countersignatory.

It says "They can't be closely related or involved with the person applying - related by birth or marriage, or be in a relationship or live at the same address as me"

I was taken in by my half-sisters, dads family.  Technically I have 0 blood relation with them, I believe. My half sister and I share a mom so I couldn't have her do it.

:) things are coming together!

The requirements of being a countersignatory are far more relaxed than they used to be.
But I believe the countersignatory must live in the UK.

CORRECTION

The official requirements for countersignatories are set out here

https://www.gov.uk/countersigning-passport-applications

Wait.. am I reading that correctly?

My countersignatory can simply be a US friend of mine (in one of those related fields of course) that I've known for many years?

That makes things exponentially easier than if they had to be living in the UK!

However lower down on that page it states "The countersignatory must also provide their British or Irish passport number - HMPO may check their identity."

that wouldn't work if the person I got to sign is simply a US citizen

Yes I have friends who I've known for a decade, but none of them live in the UK, haha. I've put in a request with that link, so thank you for that. Just hoping I don't need one as it would be near impossible to find one haha
